Yes, I have figured out how it works, and they are actually doing us a favor with it.
I think they have two cues; a super-long wait cue, and a short-wait cue. The super-long wait cue has a man's voice saying, "Thank you for calling Handspring..." and the short-wait cue has a woman's voice, "Thank you for...(you know the rest!)"
I'm guessing, in an effort to save us long distance toll, (or for whatever reason, I don't know) they automatically disconnect us if we overflow into the super-long wait cue after about 15 seconds of waiting. I have had two experiences with getting through; in the first, I got the woman's voice, "Thank you for calling Hand--(oh shut up already )..." and about 2 minutes later I got a CSR. The last time I called, I would hang up everytime I got the man's voice, until, finally, the CSR answered my line directly with (thankfully) no "Thank you for calling Handspring..."
The short of it: if you call, get through, and get the man's voice, then hang up immediately, and redial, until you get the woman's voice or the CSR.
Is this helpful?
