Prism and Brando Screen Protector

I'm sure you all know the Prism is nearly impossible to see in sunlight. Well, I just got my Brando screen protector and the glare reduction was enough to vastly improve visablity in direct sunlight. Just wanted to pass the word.

Opinion

Are you happy with the Brando? They sound great, but I'm not sure because I've never seen one. How does it effect the screen (moire, blurryness, texture, etc.)?

I'm considering getting one for my Prism.

I had a Brando on my Deluxe for several months, and was incredibly happy with it. After a while, the adhesive became less aggressive, and some flaws built up on the adhesive side, but it was still far better than anything else I had used.

When I got my new Prism a few weeks ago, I transfered the Brando over to it, flaws and all- and it works great! There is no real loss of clarity or color- even my very slightly foggy used Brando does not interfere with the Prism's appearance.

I love it. I cann't even tell its on the screen. The biggest thing is less glare which helps when using out doors. Just used it today and I think this is the first time I could see my Prism screen on a sunny day. Its not the brightest thing but at least now its usable. In case someone asks the next logical question, it took eight days to get it from Hong Kong, I live in the central US.

Compare?

How would you compare the Brando to other comercially available screen protectors like the ones made by Fellows?

I have used:
Fellowes WriteRights
PDAScreenProtectors.com
Radio Shack Screen Protectors
Homemade vinyl
Homemade acetate, mylar, etc.

I vastly prefer the Brando screen protecotrs to all of them.

If you plotted screen protectors on a scale, Fellowes would be on one end- rather thick, frosted/textured, self-adhesive, glare-reducing and clarity reducing, and pretty tough/scratch resistant. PDAScreenProtectors (a thin Mylar shield that slips in place) would be on the other end- absolutely transparent, pretty easy to scratch, very thin, etc.

Brandos would come in near the middle- the best of both worlds! They are tough, almost transparent (very, very lightly frosted), very resistant to scratching, some glare reduction with no real loss of clarity, etc.

I think the screen under the WriteRights looks funny, and it does not under the Brando. I KNOW that for me, the WriteRight reduced clarity to the point that the small text was hard to read (my vision is such that I wear glasses for distance, and am just starting to have to lift my glasses for small things- so you know where I am coming from!), the Brando does not do this. The pen feel of the Brando is very smooth and natural- but this is a very subjective point.

Installation is similar for both, but I think the Brando is sized a bit better and is a little easier to make bubble-free (at least the first time.)

The Brando is also re-useable. Washing it and trying to re-use it is where some people have problems- it is easy to introduce dust and stuff during this process. If you cannot wash and re-use it well, then the $12 cost quickly becomes a liability.

I have 2. I have damaged the adhesive on one a bit (tried to scrape some debris off with the tip of an Exacto knife), and I let the other dry off on a paper towel, adhesive side down. Now, I can't get all of the 'lint' off.

Still, even with these flaws, the Brandos look and feel better than any other protector I have tried.

Well all you have to do after patting it down so its almost dry is to use some big transparent adhesive tape and stick it ot the adhesive side of the brando and lift it off.

couple of this will render ur brando really nice and clean. Try it
it works for me

Cool idea, but I bet they would drive you crazy. It has to be grooved/ridged/textured to accomplish what it is trying to do, and that was one of the big issues with the WriteRights- and I bet the images shows up when you look at it under certain conditions, even if you are right in front of it.

Uh, am I missing something?

The writerights for my VDLX definately had more of a texture and almost a tint to them. But the ones for my Prism are, for all practical purposes, smooth and clear. It is almost like not having one there.

It's used to protect the screen itself. I pursonaly would rather dish out 12 or so dollars for a screen protector that'll save my 100 dollar screen from scratching. And it's a bonus that the protector is not even noticable

Di was right they are expensive, esp. after you factor in shipping. I know of some one who uses scotch tape in the graffiti area. I can't see paying over $20 for what is a few big pieces of scotch tape

I have the NuShield and I love it

I use NuShield screen protectors and it is the most convenient and easy to use film ever. It does not have a sticky surface, it slips between the case and the screen.
It has an optical coating to eliminate blury newton rings and scratches.
I've had mine in since November and it still works great. I took it out and cleaned it and put it back without any hassle.

And the price is right too. I paid $14.99 for three films and I expect they will last about two years.
