B,C, and E
D doesn't bother me, because in retrospect, Hawkins actually gave a pretty good estimate on when they would be shipping. Everybody took what he said to literally mean "14 days from now", when I don't think that was the case.
As for A... I'm GLAD they took orders early. Part of the fun is the anticipation!

B, C and definitely E
It's not so bad waiting, but waiting in the dark is the hardest. A little info would have helped to calm a great many frustrations.
Even now, I'd like to know "We're currently shipping 9/14 - 9/xx"

I'm a Corporate Communications student so you'd think I'd vote e)... but c) gets my vote. Sure, strategically & internally the HS communication process might have helped them better prepair but...
Anyway, all in all it looks like HS coping okay and doing the necessary response work (especially considering all the bugging the CSRs are having to put up with from us).
Hiphop wins for best answer though.

I would have to say E or F --> I really have nothing to really complain about, but I think the Handspring folks miscalculated (by about a factor of 10) how much demand there was going to be for their new product.
If they would have not accepted orders until units were available everyone would've been whining about not being able to pre-order......are we a tough lot to please or what?!?!?!
