I was speaking from memory about my old Palm III. But to verify:
<UL TYPE=SQUARE>
<LI>On my actual Visor I'm installing the v.3.1.1 update. After the HotSync, the Visor asks to be reset. When the reset is finished I hit the Apps button, then Menu App/Info... At the Info dialog box I press the Version button, the line at the top of the screen reads:
quote: Palm OS Software v.3.1
Pressing the Done button. Now pressing Menu App/Delete. At the Delete dialog box, I scroll down to the "Update 3.1.1" file. Select it, and pressing the Delete... button. Pressing the Yes button to confirm, and the file is deleted.
<LI>Now on the Palm OS Emulator (POSE), I set it up to emulate a Palm IIIx with the 3.1 non-debugging ROMs. Drag and dropping the v.3.1.1 update to POSE to install it. POSE does not ask to be reset. I assume this is because the HotSync application is what actually checks the reset bit, and POSE's drag and drop installer does not. Resetting manually. When the reset is finished I again hit the Apps button, then Menu App/Info... At the Info dialog box I press the Version button, the line at the top of the screen reads:
quote: Palm OS Software v.3.1.1
Pressing the Done button. Now pressing Menu App/Delete. At the Delete dialog box, I scroll down to the "Update 3.1.1" file. Select it, and pressing the Delete... button. Pressing the Yes button to confirm, and an Error dialog box appears stating: quote: Unable to delete Update 3.1.1
Resetting POSE, but while holding the Page-Up key down (equivalent of holding the up-arrow on the actual device). Then checking the version. It now says, "Palm OS Software v.3.1". Try to delete the "Update 3.1.1" file, deletes without a problem.
<LI>Repeating the same experiment on both POSE and my Visor, but this time use the 3.0.2 update (an update that should not work on either). The results are exactly the same as they were on the Visor, the version string does not change and the "Update 3.0.2" file can be delete with out error.
</UL>
Therefore it appears that the 3.1.1 update is not installing on my Visor. Can anyone confirm if it does install on some other Visor? From reading the source for the ROM Transfer program that comes with POSE I know that there are at least 3 different Visor ROMs (hmm, was it 3 or 4. Not sure. Do not have the code here, so I can not check.) I do not know how to check which of the three one has without writing some code.
