-- Some OS 3.1.1 update questions? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=2871)
I was reading this website and somebody said that the Visorcentral FAQ says people who have screen streaking can try using OS 3.1.1 to alleviate the problem. So I check and there is a sentence suggesting that so I go ahead and download the file. Doubleclick on OS update file, hotsynch, all seems to go well. Then for safe keeping I put the 3.1.1 file with the other patch files in the Palm OS updates folder. Later when I hotsynch for Avantgo I see that the OS 3.1.1 file is being installed again? Open Hotsynch Manager, no files to be installed, open the files to install folder, no files inside, do a Macintosh file search, only find the file inside the Palm OS updates folder. So I drag it to the trash, hotsynch 3.1.1 install stops, drag it back, file starts auto-installing again, drag it to another folder, problem goes away. So does a new OS update file in that folder auto-install? It seems to work that way on my Mac.
Also, if I want to deinstall OS 3.1.1, can I just delete the Update 3.1.1 file that I now find listed? It seems like all I have to do is delete it and soft reset, or is it more complicated than that?
Anyway, thanks for reading my question, this website is a great source of information! Keep up the good work

Mine shows PalmOS version 3.1, and the update shows in the app list as Update 3.1.1 version 3.1.1. I don't have any streaking problems, so I think the update works, but the OS version info might be in ROM so it does not change...
I was speaking from memory about my old Palm III. But to verify:

On my actual Visor I'm installing the v.3.1.1 update. After the HotSync, the Visor asks to be reset. When the reset is finished I hit the Apps button, then Menu App/Info... At the Info dialog box I press the Version button, the line at the top of the screen reads:
quote:
Palm OS Software v.3.1
quote:
Palm OS Software v.3.1.1
quote:
Unable to delete Update 3.1.1
I have an imac and a visor deluxe, I updated to 3.1.1 and now everytime I hot sync, I get that same message...Installing 3.1.1.. then I have to reset my visor. how do I stop this. and please speak slowly and clearly. I'm not that used to my visor yet
Note: I use PCs running 98 or NT, so I can not give you specific instructions. But based on my experience on the PC and on kamizuno's message: There is a Palm OS updates folder off of the main Palm folder. Assuming the update file is in this folder, moving it out should solve your problem. Kamizuno may be able to give specifics.
Hi Ooohey,
Potter is right, if your 3.1.1 update file is in the folder labeled "Palm OS Updates" in the Palm folder, you will get this constant install problem. try dragging it out of that folder and putting it in some folder outside of the Palm folder, then hotsync. If the problem goes away, then good. If you still have the problem, open up the Hotsync Manager program in the Palm folder, pull down the menu item named Hotsync, and select install from the pulldown menu. A window will open up showing the files to be installed, if the "upd311.prc" file is scheduled to be installed, then select it and click the button named "Remove from list". Then in the Palm folder is a folder named Users, open that up. Inside there should be a folder that has the same name as the one you put into your Visor, which would most likely be your name. Open that folder, then open the folder named "Files to install", and if you find the "upd311.prc" file drag it out of the Palm folder. If you've dragged all extra 3.1.1 update files out of the Palm folder, the constant install problem should go away. If it doesn't, then I'm stumped as all this is what I did to make the problem go away, actually all I had to do was drag the single "upd311.prc" file out of the "Palm OS Updates" folder in the Palm folder. Anyway, hope this helps.
Potter,
Interesting problem.
Yes, 3.1.1 IS installed on my Visor, and I have none of the mentioned problems with it. I just installed it as I would any other .prc file, and promptly forgot about it. Backups are not an issue, as I use the backup module. Others can use Backup Buddy, and either will restore the update if necessary. I did NOT put it in my Update folder.
However, I can't tell you much about the streaking problem, because with the software I used I never really noticed it, and I had installed the update fairly early before I had tried a wide range of programs. However, others have reported that the update has helped them. What software is the best example for you for streaking?

Eug,
As far as the streaking problem, I'm having very little. I can only barely see the streaking, more if I push the contrast control up. What I'm questioning is whether this update even works on the Visor.
One can install the 3.0.2 update (or the 1.0.8), but it won't do anything. Simple question: If you go to the default application launcher and then press Menu/App/Info..., and then the Version button, does your Visor display at the top "Palm OS Software v.3.1" or "... v.3.1.1"? If the first, then the update is not active, it the second then it is.
Good point. I've always wondered about that, because it says 3.1 only, and I never noticed much of a difference in image quality. If I can verify your statement I will update the FAQ...
There's always the option of StreakHack, too.
