I haven't obtained anything from Peanut Press, but my impression is that they are set up to do electronic versions of books that are relatively recent and are still under copyright - you pay for the reader and documents, which are copy protected to allow them to pay royalties.

These are things that are old enough to have passed out of copyright protection. Most are in doc format, and can be read with any doc reader.
I think there are other sites out there, but memoware seems to have a pretty good selection.
