Just a few tips:
(1) If you've upgraded through a variety of Palm devices over the years, it might be time to rename the Backup directory and start fresh, with just your application data transferred after a hard reset. When I first got my IIIc, I had weird stability problems and AvantGo wouldn't show color.
I renamed my Backup directory and created a new, empty one, did a hard reset, and sync'd to install all my address/appt/etc. data. Then I installed all my applications "fresh." Despite having the same apps installed, the IIIc was then rock-solid, and AvantGo could see in color. I'm assuming there was something in the Preferences settings somewhere which was left over from a previous device (the same data had been through a Pilot 1000, Professional upgrade, IIIx, and Visor Deluxe before the IIIc) that was screwing things up.
Of course, this is only necessary if you have problems. Most folks should be able to go Visor Deluxe to Prism with no problems.
(2) Turn the brightness down to the lowest level that still looks good to you. For some reason this makes Graffiti work better (at least, this was the case on the IIIc). It might solve the need to press harder. It also can make a dramatic difference in battery life, almost doubling it.
