Okay, I never used a Palm OS dictionary before, so I dont really have a basis for comparison. This is a single height module so it fits flush with the back of my prism. When you slip the module in, Franklin Reader is loaded on your device (but is removed when you take out the module) and by selecting it you can open the dictionary. The interface is monochrome text and very ordinary looking. There is a text field at the bottom of the screen that allows you to look up words. The results narrow down as you type each letter.
You can bookmark entries from the edit menu when there are definitions you want to keep handy. The search feature allows you to look up words you cant spell, or pull up a list containing the various forms of a word. What I mean is that you can search for "mark" and get lists that include bookmark, marksman etc.
This isnt a really flashy module, but I have to believe it will come in handy in a variety of situations. Since it is so small, I can carry it anywhere I take the visor. It is advertised to carry over 100,000 words, a plus. There are no phonetic spellings with the definitions, which is a minus. I really wish they had included color in the module (I wonder if this could be flash updated or upgraded?) I think the search feature is very helpful and the program is easy to navigate, especially with the shortcuts!
Overall, I think the module is a good buy for me. I dont have the room on my visor for a downloadable version, but I like the idea of carrying portable reference with me. If I start freelancing again, this module puts me another step closer to being completely mobile. On the downside, I think they could have added more to the package, like a thesaurus, or a companion word processor that could use the module as a spell checker, but it does provide the basics and I think I will like it more as time goes on.
Has anyone else tried it yet??
