Question Is there a way to automatically back up data to a flash mem module?

I have a Prism with the 8mb flash module, and I try to regularly backup my key databases - basically the databases for the four built-in apps - from the handheld to the module. (Saves a lot of time when recovering from a hard reset.)

But it's a bit of a hassle. Is there a way to have this done automatically on a regular basis? For example, have the Prism wake up at 3am each day, copy these databases to the module (erasing the versions from the previous day) and then go back to sleep? Maybe there's an app or hack that does this? Please?

Lightbulb Macros?

There are Macro programs for the Palm out there why don't you check them out?

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by a "Macro" program. Do you mean a program that allows me to predefine a simple command, such that when I enter the command the handheld would then backup these files to the module? That would certainly be a great improvement, although it wouldn't be fully automatic. In five years with a Palm I never heard that such programs were out there, though I can see how they would be useful. Can anyone recommend one?

Sure enough

There is in fact a hack/utility called Macroplay/Macrohack, which I picked up at Palmgear. It does exactly as I described above, recording your screen taps as a macro. And it can be set to run automatically. I have been using it to do this backup function by waking up my Prism in the wee hours and copying files to the module.

But there's a hitch when using it for this purpose. It records your screen taps exactly as you make them (and BTW it ONLY records screen taps - it won't record screen drags or presses of the hard buttons). That means that it records a screen tap at coordinates x,y on the screen. If that specific screen changes between the times you record and run the macro, it will change the result. So, when I reorganized some files recently, thus changing the list in File Mover, the macro began copying different files, because now the checkbox at position x,y was for, say, a DOC file instead of my datebook file.

Don't suppose anyone has any other suggestions?
