LCD will have some production tolerances. Specially with a new product.

You get conflicting reports here coz some are probably very good - and others are not.

I'm sure HS will tackle this problem within the next 6 month or so.

As of yet, no streaking on my visor. I have played with the contrat setting a bit and cannot notice any. Although I am using mostly included apps that came on the visor.

Nothing personal, but I don't really care what the FAQ says... I got a bulk e-mail sent to all registered PalmOS developers. So I sent a question to the link they provided, and got a response from Lee Epting. In that email, he mentions TDF screen technology and the comparisons to the V/IIIx.

I don't even know what TDF screen technology is! I'm not a big hardware guy, I just wanted to know _how_ good the screen was. And though I was a little more comfortable with reports on the screen a little while ago, I'm starting to worry that it'll just be the same just-better-than-mediocre screen that the IIIx has. :| Again, we'll see.

I would say that it is definately not a IIIx screen. I just upgraded to the Visor from a IIIx (and yes my Visor has arrived, so I am looking at it) and the screens are _not_ the same. The most obvious difference is the general color of the screen itself. The Visor's has a greenish tint (i.e. Palm V) while the IIIx's had an amber-ish tint. I am no expert here, but I wouldn't say that it is a huge improvement over the IIIx, if any at all. (Much better than previous generation Palm's though!)

Unfortunately, it doesn't really help either of you, but I thought I'd let you know that I do not see any streaking at all at normal contrast levels. If I turn my contrast way up, then I can see streaking.

Actually, I like the screen on my Visor better than the one on my V. Why? Well,
1. The Visor's screen has better contrast.(I,ve optimized both)
2. The Visor's screen is slightly larger.(easier to read in that "twilight zone" of in between lighting)
3. The Visor's backlighting is far superior to that of my V"s(The V is brighter...but the Visor is MUCH more readable..with better contrast between text and background.)

correction: the screens are the same size...However, the Visor has a larger Grafitti area. The rest stands...in spades.
