I have mixed feelings regarding the price. On one hand I am bitter to have to pay for something that is so essential to actually using the web with my HANDSPRING modem.
On the other hand I get the feeling that handspring is really keeping it's product lines afloat by note trying to match the price of palm. My take is that HS is charging more for things relative to palm because they know they have loyalty, and they now they have a market, and they are keeping their profits steady as possible to maintain a good place in the stockmarket
granted I'm no expert on such things and I think it would probably be smarter in the long run to just make the best browser say handspring OR start bundling blazer with the handheld. and make it free.
I think handspring is looking to have a more conservative strategy, not try anything too radical, but make solid steady innovations so that they can stay afloat in the same pond as palm. Not kill palm, they do have a codependancy for the next year.
I mean the 19.95 means that HS can document what they gather in from buying blazer. Also they have essentially started up a software branch with a killer app as its first release. (not bad) Likewise blazer runs on other palms.
The long term plan for handspring if I am not mistaken includes a lot more than making visors... charging for it in some way makes me happy because it improves the independance of the software, as in blazer is just an application, not part of the visor, and not directly affiliated with any content provider, instead it is a browser for Palm OS that tries to support the major standards.
