Personally, I'd rather have improved resolution over color.

Thumbs down

I doubt I will purchase it.

If it is like the Palm3C, then the battery life will be terrible. Until the color, resolution, battery life, and speed improve $499 is too much money.

I would never buy another Handspring, even if it is color. Give me a Palm Vx unit that is made by a solid, well established company. At least Palm devices live up to what it is marketed for.

Handspring has more issues it needs to address before a color unit comes out. ie. Springboard vaporware

Cool

Hopfeully VisorCentral can get their hands on an early Visor Prism and let us know what the screen really looks like . . . .

Cool Shrinky dinky!

Place your bets now. I'm betting that Handspring has shrunk the screen on the Prism, ala Palm M100 and Sony Clie.

We'll see.

Post No Colour Visor For This Boy

Don't have the dinero, and would rather invest in phone springboard once it's affordable.

One or the other...

I'll probably go with the Platinum, but will judge when I can see both side by side. There are other factors to consider.
I want ALL the accessories I've already purchased to work as well.

As neat as color would be, i don't see myself going for it. But those Quicksheet charts & graphs sure would look cool!!

Cool

I think that the color visor will be cool but, I don't think that I will upgrade for the $$$ that they are asking. If it has more memory and better color than the IIIc then I may look in the future.

on the other hand, the platinum looks nice.

the one feature i really want though, is FLASH RAM. it is so much better, with being able to upgrade the os.

Exclamation

Even though my six-year-old told me he "knows" I'll want a color Visor (so he can then have mine!) I can't see it until it's WELL worth the cost. I'll read the reviews, wait for the price to come down, and when my IVX bites the dust, I'll think about it seriously. Until then - nope.

Well, ZDNet is usually reliable as sources go.
I believe that I read that the prism will be 16 bit in another source as well. But they could have been quoting the ZDNet article for all I know.

I'm anxiously awaiting the Prism, and intend to get the first one. While most respondents to this forum want to play,
the Handspring Visor Deluxe is an essential tool for managing patients in medical practice.

Price is irrelevant. It's still close to toy level pricing, compared to what a health care person spends to be able to prepare to treat your illness competently.

One needs to be able to read the screen in darkened patients' rooms, and the black type on bright white background will increase readability, like my boss's Palm IIIc.

The HSV is the best choice for practice because of the expandable memory. I'm maxed at 24MB with reference texts and hundreds of apps, programs, and databases, and am looking for more memory capacity. If anyone knows of a way to add more memory, I'd sure like to hear about it!

HSV rather than TRGPro because of ability to take patient's pictures for the chart, Stowaway to type the chart with PatientKeeper, ClipHack, and SuperPad, and beaming to a HP 340C Portable Printer with IR adapter using PalmPrint. Patient education handouts are instantly provided during the office visit.

While I don't need to get into a flame war, I'd sure like to point out that the readers of this forum need to hear what these babies can do, rather than whining about what they can't do (yet). It gets better every day.

That's a fascinating description -- I never realized the Visor had so much going for it from that point of view.

Out of curiosity, do you know if the sensor Springboards might be usable in medical practice?

Are you referring to a bar code scanner? If so there are many potential uses for it in medical practice.

You can use them to scan a pt's chart then write your note and resync to a main central database. It can also reduce medication errors. If I was to scan a pt's chart, I can see what meds have been and have not been given. There's a whole bunch of medical applications that are waiting to be developed. So far I have mostly seen these for Pock Pc. I would like to start seeing it done for the Palm OS

Actually, I was thinking of the Pacific Microinstruments springboard listed on the "Springboard Modules" page of this website under "Sensors."

http://www.pacificmicroinstruments.com/MNPintro.htm

But a bar code reader sounds useful as well.

Sensors

Not quite medical application yet,
but I'd bet that something's going to come along soon that gathers patient data like Temperature, Pulse, and O2 Saturation.

Thanks for the link, John.

16 bit and 64 K colors sounds sweet, but still on a 160 x 160 screen? Don't know what that looks like. I am inclined to go for the color but need to see the rest of the specs and features. I hope the unit will take more memory without consuming the springboard slot !!!

Visors's rule !!!
