If your Minstrel is in your visor, then some of the time you are probably using it. If you use it, there has to be some handshaking between the Visor and modem, and that requires electricity. That electricity comes from the Visor. The modem's battery is used for phone dialing, and other modem work.
If your modem applications are not running, there should be no power drain from the modem in your Visor. USING a modem (or any springboard module) will draw more current from the visor than NOT using a modem, simply because it takes power to communicate with/thru the springboard port.
That's my theory, and I'm sticking to it.
