Two battery life questions...one slightly off topic...

First, does anybody know if the Minstrel S uses any of the Visor Deluxe's battery power; I know the modem has it's own internal rechargeables, but does simply having it in the Visor (with the visor on or off) use the Visor's own AAAs?

Also, I've read that the Visor - even turned off - will discharge if it is left in the cradle. Is this true? Why? Is there a way to prevent it?

thanks,

Dan

Can't help you with the first question...

As for the second, no, the Visor does not have any battery drain if OFF in the cradle. If the Visor is ON in a USB cradle, there is some drain but that stops after the auto-off kicks in.

The modem does not use any of the Visor's internal battery power.

The Visor will discharge if left off in the cradle. Handspring support verified this question.

Not according to what they told James back in December of '99

If that's the case why is my battery useage higher with the modem than without? My battery life has gone from about a week and a half to a few days using the Minstrel S.

If your Minstrel is in your visor, then some of the time you are probably using it. If you use it, there has to be some handshaking between the Visor and modem, and that requires electricity. That electricity comes from the Visor. The modem's battery is used for phone dialing, and other modem work.

If your modem applications are not running, there should be no power drain from the modem in your Visor. USING a modem (or any springboard module) will draw more current from the visor than NOT using a modem, simply because it takes power to communicate with/thru the springboard port.

That's my theory, and I'm sticking to it.
