Though i know you're quoting someone else, i don't agree the divx failed because of the copy protect problem. Divx was a ridiculous format and had, in my opinion, no redeeming qualities. I have a dvd player and love it (and the majority of dvd players have copy protection on them as well). Divx was just plain short sighted and ignorant.
However, I'm not disagreeing with what you're pointing out, and, actually, I agree with your assessment of copy protected mp3 type formats. I just get a little annoyed when people single out divx for any reason other than that it was just a stupid idea.
