If it's the pokey 98 shell and IE integration that bothers you, you might try 98lite. I'm using it on two of my computers (one tower, one notebook) and it's been working fine for months. Basically, it lets you install the win98 kernel and hardware support, but replaces the win98 shell with the win95 shell. I've found the 95 shell to be much faster than the 98 shell.

I'm not sure whether the newer version is freeware anymore. If not, I could email you an older version. Basically, you just do a full 98 install, run a program, stick in a win95 cd, and reboot.
The visor (and all other USB peripherals I've tried) works fine in this setup.
