Cool

Dis-abling Eco-Hack did the trick for me! Thanks!

Ok, as an update to my last post where I said the problem is fixed... I tryed to beam a friend an application yesterday. Would not work. There must be some program I am running that is preventing it to work. Soft reset didn't fix the problem. Problem is, trying to trouble shoot this when I have to recruit someone's divice to beam to.

I have been going round the IrDA/beaming issue for more time that I care to think of at this point. What seems to happen is a "fatal exception" (FE) will often corrupt my preference file. I now check the Beam Receive after a reset from a FE and it will be turned off. I will not be able to turn it on from the po-up menu. If I try to beam my business card I will get a "no exchange libraries available" message. If I try to print from MultiMail I will get a FE. Cool huh?

If I do a hard reset and reload all apps the beaming will work and I will be able to print. Something I am willing to sit through once more as long as a Palm OS engineer arrives on-site to do it for me.

I believe that the necessary libraries are installed but the corrupt prefs cannot see them.

Angry

Hi,

Has anyone experienced problems beaming to
anything other than a Palm III?

I just got my Visor and was happly beaming
away when I found that I kept on getting
beam interrupted messages when I sent to
Palm V's or Palm IIIe's.

The strange thing is that I have no problem
receiving apps and stuff beamed from a Palm V
but when I try to beam to that Palm V, boom!
It doesnt't work.

I've tried deleting all my IR apps, and even
trying the devices in a dark room. But
everytime it's always the same... beam interrupted.

Another strange thing is that I have
absolutely no problem beaming to a Palm III!
or using OmniRemote to control TVs and stuff.

Anyone seeing this? Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Jeff

Lightbulb

I may have something here. I have read all the posts on this topic and most were related to problems with IR software installed on the device. I'm thinking "I don't have any ir software installed, why am I having problems"? Well, I am also having problems with Multimail and it's various plugins. Multimail just went from version 3.0 to 3.1. Well hey there, look at the files Multi mail v 3.1 installed and there it is, IRMgr.prc. It's the IR manager for the Bachmann Print server. I bet that's the problem. If someone else has Multimail V3.1 and is having problems, try remove that file from the device. I am posting this before I try it, it just might take a while before I can find someone to test beaming applications.

Thumbs down

Alrighty,

I just did a hard reset on my Visor Deluxe and made sure that everything was erased. Then I tried beaming Graffiti to a Palm Vx and nothing worked. Same goes for a Palm V. But, there was no problem beaming to a palm III.

This sucks. Anyone else having problems beaming to another device other than a Palm III?

Did not have time to test to find out the problem, but:

- have never had IR games installed
- have IRSwitch DA installed
- have latest (1.17) beambox
- most apps installed on Visor through beaming from a Palm III
- never had problems beaming to and from Palm III

Other day, my boss beamed me his business card from his Palm V. No problems. I tried afterwards to beam him an app from the normal Palm Launcher Beam program. I tried positioning the Visor everywhere (different angles, or 90 but offset, etc. etc.), but the Palm V pretended never acknowledged anything.

I must admit that I don't know if his Beam receive was off or on, since I didn't ask, although I assume it wasn't because he just got the Palm and doesn't experiment at all with it, and secondly, after beaming me his business card, the OS didn't give the usual warning that his IR receive is off, would he like to turn it on? Or is this warning only standard on Visors. The V was running 3.1.

Count me among those who cannot beam properly.

I am able to receive just fine, from Palm V and Visor Delux, but when I try to beam to each, I get the "Beam Interrupted" message. I was able to successfully beam my business card once. That was it.

Besides the beaming issue, my screen has crapped out on me. I got my Visor on Thursday the 27th and by Wednesday the 2nd the screen was on the blink - literally. Now the screen seems to fade in and out and if you squeeze the unit or tap it, it may or may not return to normal. Normalcy doesn't last for long, however.

Tonight, I'll be getting my feet wet with HS customer support. I intend to return my BVD and hope that the replacement unit comes sans the beaming and screen problems.

Wish me luck.

Thumbs up

Don't know if you guys have fixed the "beam interrupted" problem. I had the same problem: couldn't beam to anything other than a Palm Pro with 2MB upgrade card (essentially a Palm III). Couldn't beam to a Palm Vx.

Solution? Replace the unit. I got a replacement and it works fine now.

beambox can cause problems too. I could not beam to my friends Palm V and it did not work because he had Beambox installed...

It used to work when he didn't have that yet, and after I installed it too, it worked again....

I guess both parties have to have BB installed or both parties have to have it NOT installed...
Strange but true....
