Question flip-lid vs. Palm III reproduction lids

Sastian,

Could you please tell me what the difference is between these two lids? I would like to decide whether it is worth my while to hold out for the flip-lid. If possible, could you please post an image of the upcoming flip-lid?

Also, I am planning on getting a VisorPhone, and read in this thread that your product would be compatible with it. I would like to know how this will work, as the Palm III reproduction lids appear that they would be hindered from folding back by the top of the VisorPhone.

Thanks in advance,

Zyll.

Cool Another FlipCover @ www.FlipCover.com

Hello everyone,

After reading this thread I only wish I had the opportunity to get on sooner so I could be part of this amazing conversation. Id first like to congratulate Sastian on his excellent idea and realizing the opportunity that existed. Im sure that it will come to all of you as no surprise that he was not the only one to think of this. For over a year our company has been working to develop an integrated FlipCover design for the Handspring Visor. However, unlike Sastians product solution, since ours is integrated into the Visor it involved developing a serious backbone. Unlike the Palm III cover that stops at 120 degrees, FlipCover flips all the way to the back of your Visor. We have partnered with Handsprings largest module manufacturer, ATL Technologies, in order to help developers become compatible to this new platform.

Sastian,

Great looking product!

Do the Palm III Series Lid Reproductions and the Visor Flip Lid use the same Flip-Clip?

I was thinking of ordering your Palm III lids for now and then replacing with the clear Visor Flip Lid when they're available. Never removing the Flip-Clip itself seems like it would be kinder to my Visor.

Yes they both use the same clip, and you will be able to use other developers Palm III lids such as landwares Govox

Ahhhh. the difference... I can start by telling you that when our dissention towards the stock lid that came with my first Visor was realized last year we started down the exact same path. We then recognized after a few prototypes that we were limiting the use of the springboard slot. (which honestly is the defining factor of owning a HS product over a palm) Don't get me wrong I like the double hinged lids myself. My first PDA was a Tandy ZPDA (casiopia) and that's what I originally envisioned for a lid due to it, but the compatibility with springboard modules is essential. With their design, at best it will work on only one module you may own. It will also only work with standard size modules. Modified or purchased. Now if this is on a sixpack, I can understand leaving the thing in but if you ever plan on owning more than one module, you will need a Flip-Clip.

About your concern with the clearance of the lid with the VisorPhone. I plan on posting the photos that will ease your concern on our site and here in less than a week. But there is no need for concern, it works flawlessly.

I don't think though that it should be anchored in the springboard slot. I don't want to have to take off my case each time I want to put in a module, and would usually want to carry mine with a module in place and the flip cover.

Currently, I'm using the EB slipper and am very satisfied. The only problem is that I have never been able to sync in the cradle, but have since gotten a cable.

Hmmmm.....

On the 2nd of December we had gone to register flip-clip.com (Flip-Clip being a registered trademark) to redirect people to Tactilis.com (product marketing) but I enterd a character wrong. so i though ill just do it tomorrow. When I returned for another attempt 2 days later, low and behold a Zivthan Dubrovsky had it registered. The same guy with the "flipcover." Not 24 hours later he posts to this thread. From what I can tell after going to his site, he doesn't have any product by that name. I just want the court of public opinoin's ruling on what they think his intentions are.

Hello Sastian,

Please don't be so quick to judge. Over the past three months FlipCover.com has purchased many flipnames and flip-names in order to try to build a product name database for all its current and future products.

I'm sorry to tell you that flip-clip and flip-lid were amongst those in our ongoing product identity brainstorming. If you would like to arrange to have these names transfered over to you, then please email us at [email protected] and we'll be happy to help.

Again, good luck with your product. It'll be fun.

Z

I am going with the flip lid

Sorry but I am sticking with the flip-lid because as far as I can tell you have to purchase some kind of altered springboard? And if major companies do not want your product in them, your outta luck.

sastian and FlipCover,

Let's keep this thread focused. If there's going to be anything between your two companies, it must be handled outside of this forum. I believe you both have contact information on your sites... use it to contact each other directly.

For everyone else,

Don't let the thread digress beyond the original topic. While I am a big fan of the "court of public opinion", I don't believe this thread is the appropriate place for it.

If we can't all get along and play nicely, I'll have to take away all the toys and send everybody home...

Actually, if you look at the flipcover website, you can buy a stick-it-to-your-module version. Only a tiny hinge part is permanantly attached to the module. The middle part and the lid are completely removeable.

It's actually a really nice solution. You can stick it to any standard size module, and I'd guess you'll be able to buy multiple sticky parts if you have multiple modules.

Personally, I'm leaning towards the Flip-Lid since I hope to get a VisorPhone (when they come out) and a GPS (someday). But I'm going to wait for the Flip-Lid. Sounds like a more visually pleasing solution than the Palm III reproductions.
