Cool

Huh - I thought Karahari was Kalahari having a good joke with all of us. Oh well. It was still funny. I didn't think that sinking feeling in my stomach was all that funny when I read Karahari's first post, but I'm over it now.

Thumbs down

Well, I'm not so happy. After waiting on-hold for 2 hours, I just found out that my 9/16 VDx order won't ship until next Monday (10/25). The CSR was totally baffled when he saw that date come up considering when I ordered, so it's my belief that my additional ordering of the stylus 5-pack two weeks ago caused the delay. For all you first-day orderers, I hope that you don't encounter the same result.

Ka"r"ahari,
That's OK. I figured that you probably just joking and not being malicious. I wouldn't want to get all of us "Visor-hungry" people mad for nothing!

ChrisB,
As far as bugs are concerned, the only problem that I've found so far is that the Daylight Savings Hack causes a soft reset on every power-on. Other 7 hacks that I use are working just fine.

I really am surprised that there aren't other people saying that they've received their Visors too. I had changed my order to include the serial cradle and that was included in the package too.

Question

I haven't owned a PDA before, but I'm familiar with the terms "soft reset" and "hard reset" and know that if you do a hard reset, it erases EVERYTHING from your PDA, and returns it to the state it was in when you first pulled it out of the box, but what does a soft reset do?

It just restarts the Pilot. Nothing big.

Question

Well, I've been playing with a graphite pre-production Visor for a couple of weeks now and I'm sold on the thing. Mine shipped Friday, but being I'm in Vermont (which is darned close to being in Europe as far as UPS Ground from California is concerned...), I won't see it until the end of this week or early next.

Here's a couple of questions for those of you who've received non-graphite units:
1) On the blue unit, what color is the screen cover? Blue, or Ice?
2) If you ordered an extra cradle, did you get graphite or Ice?

Cool

Well I called my credit card company and my card has been charged for the amount of 274 or something (and not an authorization.) as of today. I'll let everyone know when I receive my blue visor deluxe. I live in Central California, by the way =)

dennya,

To answer your questions:
1. The screen cover is ice on the blue visor.
2. The USB cradle and the extra serial cradle that I ordered are both ice.

I read somewhere that all covers and all cradles will be ice-colored for all the colored (non-graphite) visors.

Cool

Kalahari,

Thanks for the info!

MyCroft,

Aargh. I lived in the Bay Area until July... I'd have my Visor by now! (Oh well, I'd still be wishing I could afford a house, too...)

Anyway, RE: USB. One thing I noticed when I was testing the preproduction Visor was that the USB driver didn't install itself properly until after a reboot. I installed the Visor software, plugged in the USB connector, and did a hotsync. When it started the Hotsync,it tried to install the USB driver, and couldn't find it. Once I rebooted, though, everything worked fine.

One question remains to be answered regarding the color deluxe Visors... What color is the stylus? Is it blue for the blue Visors? Or maybe ice for all colors? Or all they all graphite?

Unhappy

dennya-

Heh, i know the feeling about the bay area.

Windows detected the new USB device (Handspring Visor), couldn't find the driver on the CDROM or locally, and finished the install.

I tried rebooting, but unfortunately that hasn't helped. The hotsync manager seems to be USB aware (there's an option for it, at least), but the handheld can't connect.

Handspring's customer service and technical support lines are both dead, and I've been on hold for over an hour so far with the 888 order line.

Sigh....this has been an extremely unsatisfying conclusion to an otherwise exciting day.

Mycroft,

Wish I could remember how I solved that glitch... But here's what I'd suggest:
1) Reinstall the software without the cradle connected to the USB port.
2) Reboot
3) NOW plug in your cradle. It should be detected and work fine.

I *think* that's how it went with my setup.

Cool

I received my Green Visor Deluxe.
I was a bit concerned that the color
would not be what I was looking for.

But I actually like it. So far I like
the snap cover too. Takes two
seconds to master the on/off procedure.
It's solid and should protect alot of
screens.

Working a grave shift, I just had to get
up when the UPS person knocked on the door.
Been waiting to upgrade my Pilot 1000.
And the palms are too expensive.
It's good to see some competition here.

The stylus is cheap and graphite colored.
Possibly an after thought. Guess
I gotta buy the better stylus. A little
cheap on that part. Should give you
nice one with the deluxe model and not
accessorize you after the fact. But
I guess that's what consumer electronics
is all about.

Overall, I'm stoked.
