Yeah the ol' keep it in your pocket routine works but unless you plan on running into the privacy of a bathroom stall everytime you look up a phone number or jot down a note or idea, the inevidable "Hey what's that! Lemme see that thing!" will haunt you forever. And once they know you have it, they will continue to ask about it.

I know there is no answer other than bear it and the novelty will wear off, but I just wanted to share my thoughts with you guys: The people who know what I'm talkin' about...

Ah well...I suppose I lack the proper current frame of reference, then because I never had a Visor in such a situation. I've had lots of people at the office ask me about my Edge (and previously my VDx), but none of them have ever tried to reach out and grab it from me. Of course, Lefty may have mentioned something about the time that he tried.

Nobody touches my Visor without my permission.
Not if there is any question about being able to extract $85 for a new screen if the butterfingered moron drops my Visor.

My Visor is generally either in my Rhodiana case strapped to my hand by the elastic bands or securely ensconced under my arm in my Landware BurroPak sholder holster. I make a point of never leaving it lying on a desk.

If it was lying on my desk, I'd have to rely upon the speed of my reflexes. Then they would be distracted by the sensation of their hand being stapled to the desk by my boot sheath dagger, buying me critical time to snatch my Visor out of harm's way.

I'm rather possessive about my Visor....

I use the "I'm bigger than you are so don't even think about touching my Prism unless you ask" method.

Now THAT is funny... I think I may try that option. Distraction my way of maiming. I can't see any ill effect or consequences there.

What about Matrix?

I recently found an application called Matrix and the accompanying hack Matrix Hack (naturally) which is a very efficient "don't mess with my PDA before asking me!" application.

It's a password protected screensaver from the movie (naturally) Matrix. You choose the time after which the screensaver get activated, and after that you have to key in a 4-key passcode (sorry, only 256 combinations :-( to do anything other than watching letters drift down. It survives a soft reset by more knowledgeable intruders. If they ever try a hard reset I'll kill 'em!

Maybe I'm weird or something (more likely something) but I never let anyone take my Prism without my express permission. And I'm not big. If someone want s to look at it, other than certain close friends, I am more than happy to as long as I can look at their wallet, credit cards and cash.

If I have something I want someone to see, I show it to them. My Prism sits on my desk next to me where others cannot just reach over and grab it, why anyone would put it where that can happen is beyond me. If I'm going to be away from my desk, I either take it with me or put it in my desk drawer.

Jeez...I can't believe the lady in that article was looking through his checking information. I would have *****-slapped her. I use Pocket Quicken but finally decided to put a "password only access" on it just in case.

Hard to believe some people can be so freaking nosy and downright rude. Tell her you'll show her your Prism if she shows you her breasts. It's about the same level of privacy. Even then I still wouldn't let anyone scroll through my Prism unattended.

This is weird, I've never had any problems like this.

Maybe it's because when I first got my first PDA (a Visor Deluxe) I made no secret of it, showing it off every chance I got.

When I got a Prism, nobody seemed interested in it. (Except when I showed them, "LOOK! IT DOES COLOR.")

Now I got a CLIE (still have my Prism, I'm not a complete traitor). At no point with any of these, at work or not, has anybody tried to snatch it away from me. They usually don't even ask to see it. I get the occasional "What's that?" but I never make like to hand it to them, and nobody reaches for it...

Maybe they're all just afraid of it! Or maybe I work with classy people.

Although one of the managers at work did come by the other day as I was trying to check something on my CLIE in the middle of work, and he said something like "What are you doing, scanning?"

I didn't think of it till later, but I should have pointed it at him and said "Yes, I'm looking for signs of intelligent life... still haven't found any..."

On the other hand, I do need my job...
