If you have a specific need to overwrite your home data with your work data (eg, you know that your home data has become corrupted), you should do as -gimme- suggests.
However, in an ordinary HotSync, the newer data (whether it be on the PDA or the PC) will *overwrite* the older data. Unless someone's changing data on your home computer while you're at work, you should be fine with the default "synchronize the files" HotSync conduit settings.
I could be mistaken about the above, but I will say that in 4.5 years of Palm use (syncing with both home and work computers), I have yet to lose or mess up any data. The worst that's happened is the cautious HotSync software has alerted me to a possible conflict/confusion, telling me that it's graciously duplicated the "suspect" records and that I'll have to decide which to keep and which to delete.
