Red face Hot sync woes

This is killing me! I'm hotsyncing at home with my USB cradle. I'm also hotsyncing at work with my GoType keyboard. Yes, I know, that sounds goofy, but with my recent data loss problems, I like to Hot Sync as much as possible. For the record, this has been working well for a long time now.

Well recently, my phonebooks have been out of sync. I've got new categories that keep getting deleted from one site's database (say, work). The records don't get deleted, just the categories. If I add them back in and readjust the records, they will get shuffled around if I sync at home. The funny thing is, when I add the categories back in, PalmOS apparently attributes numbers to them in a particular order because after they are added, some records will in the wrong category. For instance, like a Family member will be listed in School.

Anyone?

May have answered my own question.

About midway down, there's a reference to syncing one palm between two machines. Bad things happen, and by the sound of it, it's surprising that it has been working correctly for me this long.

Oh well...

I've been syncing to two machines for awhile, and had almost no problems. The one problem that I did have was exactly yours: categories shuffling about. I stopped syncing to outlook at work and instead to the palm desktop and the problem went away.

I have been syncing to both my work computer and home computer ever since I got my first Palm and have never had any problems. I sync to Outlook on both of them.

Sync'ing to two machines isn't the issue. I sync to Lotus Org at home and work, NT at work; Win98 at home. My categories are fine, except of course, Palm OS doesn't seem to support long file names and truncates them.

The only problem I have sync'ing to 2 machines is that I sometimes wind up with duplicate entries if I modify both desktops before sync'ing a change.

Talking Yep, I think you're right

I agree now. That must have been the case with my problems. Because now, they two machines are syncing correctly to my Visor and I haven't done anything special.

At some point when it all started, I must have edited the Palm Desktop on both machines before syncing.

Cool!
