-- Setting up Thinmodem Plus with ISP (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=15176)
I will be receiving my new Thinmodem Plus Module later this week. I know I will need an ISP to access the internet. My current ISP is CompuServe.
I e-mailed CompuServe yesterday for directions in using my Visor DLX/Thinmodem Plus and CompuServe and they answered that I should get in touch with Amazon.com since the modem was being delivered by them.
Somehow that doesn't seem right since Amazon is merely the retailer. I am looking for help from the service provider CompuServe and am getting shut out. Oh, well...
Here is my question, "Could someone in this discussion group, who is a current Thinmodem Plus user, tell me what will be involved in getting set up with my ISP?"
Here are two follow up questions, "Are there additional user charges? Additional software I will need?"
Please help an Old Guy in Michigan.
Link for help with Compuserve
I am sure that Amazon would be no help at all! Please go here for help with using Compuserve. It is CardAccesses' FAQ page. They have special instructions for Compuserve. Unfortunately, the page says the following:
"The modem will work with your Compuserve mail account, but not as an Internet browser."
I hope you are just planning to check email.
I wish I could help more but I use Prodigy for an ISP. Maybe there is someone else out there who could help.

Thanks much for the advice. Do I need to get a second ISP...does AOL have the capability of being my ISP so I can use the web browser?
I think with AOL or compuserve, you cannot use to browse the internet from Thinmodem plus.
Note: Please someone correct me if I'm wrong!

Thank you for the excellent information...I'll be contacting Prodigy for an account later today. I can always count on the Forum to answer my question.
Yes, (and pardon my snootiness) a real ISP is the only way to go. AOL & Co. are "content providers", and access to the Internet is almost like an afterthought.
I don't know the Prodigy deal, but I use Earthlink, and I get unlimited Internet dial-up for $19.95 per month. They also have about 3,000 local dial-up numbers nationwide, and I have yet to visit a town where I couldn't find a local number to use. No pesky 800-number charges here. This is the account that I use for my desktop, so when I got my Thinmodem+, I didn't have to pay anything extra to get connected. No, I can't be online with my desktop and my Visor at the same time, but how often would I need to do that anyway?
