Question Visorphone & Edge

I've been thinking about getting a cell phone in the near future, and want some sort of connectivity to my Edge. Since HS made the bottom end connector one the Edge different than everthing else, I'm at a loss when it comes to finding if a cable to phone solution is possible.

So the VP @ $49 is looking like a good deal. I'm wondering about form factor. I'll probably be a little clunky, but I have room in my purse.

Is anyone out there using a VP w/ an Edge? I'd like to hear how things are working out.

The Edge + Phone = defeated purpose of the Edge. The Edge was intended to be a slim form factor with occasional use of the SB module adapter. Since the VP has to be in the SB Slot to work, that means the form factor is shot pretty much all the time. Unless of course you don't want to use the phone that often.

If I were to purchase the VP I would rather have a standard HS model such as the Prism or PLTM

On further thought, the VP isn't such a deal, since it really would screw up how I use my Edge. What I'd miss the most about the Edge would be the flip cover. I really rely on that when it's in my purse.

Now I guess the question is: I need either a infrared modem phone, or a phone that someone makes a phone-to-Edge cable for. What's out there, I can't seem to find any straight answers. So, what's out there that would work for me?

Help!

I used the Visor Deluxe leather slip case with my Edge-Visorphone combo when I had to carry it in a bag.

Second point.. You have to detail the model cell phone that you want to attach to the Edge. Look for your match at thesupplynet. It's a decent solution, but it's just more hardware (phone and cable) to handle than the Visorphone chillin' in Springboard.

Thanks for the tip on TheSupplyNet, I found the cables, and am now looking for a phone from their list. Thanks again!

So far there are no cables available for the Edge (at least where I've looked). A lot of websites say "Coming Soon" but have yet to produce anything. BTW... This is same response as for the Edge-specific SB Modules. IMHO, I believe that since the Edge sales have been somewhat dismal, it may be a while before we see Edge cables and modules. HS needs to produce another device on the Edge form factor before companies are going to jump on the bandwagon.

Cool I hadn't seen that site before...

Also I found Gomadic, they have a 'solder it yourself' kit for Edge to Startac, and they also sell a Nokia connector for the 51xx/61xx phones, I sent them an email, asking about using the Nokia connector instead of the Startac connector with the kit. I'll update this post when they get back to me.

Reply from Gomadic:

We would be happy to substitute a Nokia Connector assembly for the Startac one that comes with the DIY Edge kit (no extra charge), however, we can assemble the cable for you. We currently don't offer the Nokia to Visor product and wouldn't know how to wire it. We would recommend checking the popular visor message boards at www.visorcentral.com www.visorvillage.com, etc and posting your question there. Usually, people find that they receive quality responses from a knowledgeable community.

Thanks,

Since TheSupplyNet.com doesn't offer an Edge to Nokia cable, this could be an option if someone knew how to wire it!
