hotsync via modem

I picked up a thincom modem at staples. Now I am trying to figure out how to enable my visor to hotsync via the modem when I travel.

Anyone have experience with this?

There are two ways of doing it.

You can dial from your Visor (A) into your computer (B). Both have to have modems, and the Hotsync on (B) must be configured to accept incoming calls (right click the hotsync icon in the system tray).

In you Visor, make sure you go to the Hotsycn app, change the option to Modem and select a valid Network entry (one with the (B) number to dial). Also, on the menu select Modem Sync Prefs and change to "Direct to modem".

Second way, via internet. Right click the hotsync icon in your system tray, set Network. Also, make sure your setup under Network tab allows your username to use this feature. Note that you'll need name resolution or to know your computer's IP address (use http://www.dyndns.org to get a free name on the internet).

On your Visor, go to the Hotsync app, on the menu check Modem Sync preferences you change to "Network" and on LANSync preferences set to "LANSync". Back to the main Hotsync app screen, select Modem and a valid Network entry with your ISP dial up numbrer. Tap the Hotsync icon, the Visor will connect all the way to your computer.

Note you can enable and disable some conduits for modem/network hotsync, which is good idea because of the low bandwidth.

Also note I'm giving these instructions in the believe you can go around the Prefs application to create Connections and Network entries (they're used to dial from the Hotsync application).

Hope this helps.
