-- YadaYada server down (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=11909)

Angry

Before I found out this news I was unable to conect to any web pages last night. The modem turned on and connected fine but it just wouldn't pull anything down. I then tried Avant Go and Blazer to no avail. Strangely, the only thing that did work was JPA PQA. So this morning after trying everything to get the thing to work I broke down and called YadaYada. They told me their server was down and would be back up in about an hour. Their server has been down since 11pm last night! Come on guys!

While I'm at it, can someone please tell my why AvantGo and Blazer would not work even though they use different servers? Is it because we still have to go through YY's servers ultimately? Also why did the JPS PQA work?

Same problem- I am using the Palm VII pqas after installing the requisite libraries. They worked fine last night, but nothing else did- just like you. It must have something to do with the server they connect through. It may not function like the "regular" 'net.

Yes, I just called YY and they said the servers have been down since yesterday afternoon. I used it fine yesterday morning, but haven't been able to access since that afternoon and today.
I'm sure it'll be ok after a while.

Also, I noticed Yada Yada has released the Minstrel S software again. I downloaded and installed it last night. It's version 1.12. My modem still crashed on power-down. Oh well.

BTW, if you're doing to do a backup using the HS Backup Module, make sure you have enough juice in your batteries. I learned the hard way and lost everything....even the backup's data!

Maybe there DNS was down. Did you try using the ip address
instead of the host name?

Posted by prismenvy on 02-16-2001 04:39 PM:

Where did you see the new Minstrel S software? I see version 3.1 but not the software you mentioned. Is it me or is the YadaYada site not very well organized?

wforde- good thought on the DNS. However, it doesn't seem to do the trick. Same response when using the IP numbers directly.

Posted by wforde on 02-16-2001 04:59 PM:

It still maybe the DNS. Remember that Blazer and Avantgo
both use a intermediate server.

Posted by wforde on 02-16-2001 05:04 PM:

Are they still down? Because blazer and avantgo both
work for me. Then again my DNS is a public DNS, not the
one the YY supplied.

Well Yada's servers are still down as of Friday 2/16/ 12:05pm (eastern time).

Posted by prismenvy on 02-16-2001 05:18 PM:

wforde- Please tell about how to use the Public DNS that you use. I am not up on that. I am still having trouble. Tried Eudora Web using IP only and no luck. Eudora claims not to use intermediate servers.

I'm having no problems with Yada Yada & Blazer (I'm in the Boston Area) it's working like a charm here..

same boat different ocean

Nice to see my worst fears confirmed. I notice that even a wired connection to the YadaYada web site had problems just accessing the email portion of the site yesterday (though I could get through on the wireless at that time). Drilled around the site and found a side door to the email page that solved that problem.

Then later in the evening I noticed that same inaccessible server issue (PQA's no problem) weirdness.

Have to admit I'm getting kinda anxious......

All services are working fine up here, yada yada e-mail, Yada browse (I don't normally use it, just checked it out for you folks). No problems to report..

The problems some folks are having must be regional or internet/cellular carrier related...

back on line

Looks like we're back....

...but it would seem kinda odd: now the link "Get Organized > WebMail" seems to be broke again. I guess if its one thing or another I could live with this.

If anybody needs to access their email on a land line I found this link to work: http://mail.yadayada.com

What is a public DNS and where did you find it?

new version 1.12 for Visors

Prismenvy,

I (think) I just got the newest version of the Minstrel S software off the YY website.

A few weeks ago, it was released. The next day the website said the software was being "perfected" and the software became not available for download.

Last night I checked the site and saw that something was available again. I downloaded it and installed it yesterday in hopes it would solve our connection problem.

Anyway, the version is 1.12. I don't know what the improvements are, but I'm still getting "shutdown crashes." It's very frustrating.

To get this software, sign in to the YY site, and click on "download software." You should be able to get it then.

I'm in the SF Bay Area and I still can't get connected with YadaYada. Am I the only one? Everything was fine until last Wednesday. I know their server went down, but it seems from the posts that they are back up. Someone let me know I'm not alone.

Finally broke down and called. They gave me a new IP address. Problem solved. I should have called earlier.
