Does anyone have Widcomm Bluetooth springboard?

I have recently purchased a Widcomm bluetooth adapter with a desktop /usb module. Unfortunately it did not come with any drivers (usb for win2k) and the springboard module itself is somewhat cryptic. I have been able to Discover my T68 phone using the adapter but have not had any luck with actually communicating with the phone (send/receive phone #s addresses etc.) Any assistance would be appreciated.

The module exists - look on VisorCentral.com for more info.

IT was never sold to consumors though. Widcomm only made a delvopers version available, and stopped. I saw it demoed at Comdex last year. IT was crap though compared to Red-M's bluetooth module. Not much more i can say about it though...

I still love my Visor Prism

Well I'm the "proud" owner of the above mentioned module and I have NO clue how to use it I can detect my cell phone with it (T68) and get all the services that the cell phone provides but I have no idea how to address those services (ie - dial up). The module also came with a USB adapter for the desktop but absolutely no software... I was left with the impression that drivers/software would be available from Widcomm's web site. Upon contacting their Tech Support (which is ONLY available through e-mail) I have been stone walled with "product only for developers - please give us your company name/registered name/dna type/ retinal scan etc. . It really wasn't that bad of a deal - got all of this (module/usb-bluetooth adapter) as well as a Prism for ~$200. I'm hoping to get $150 for the prism so I wouldn't be out too much...

Try creating a new dialup connection while the module is connected using a "built in modem" option, or "serial".. It just might work (I'm trying to rememebr hwo the red-m device worked)

Also saerch on handago/palmgear for bluetooth, to get a list of apps that work. As I recall to the palm OS the bt module looks like a serial port...

Could anyone with a Red-M tell me how well the thing works? I'm considering buying it to use it with my desktop and with my T68 mobil phone but I would like to know if it's a pain to configure/use.

I am using the Red-M module to access a Tecom BT3030 dongle and Widcomm Bluetooth for windows software on my PC. The whole thing was very easy. Once the PC is setup, you just click a discovery button in the Red-M program on the Visor and save the configuration. Make sure you turn on internet connection sharing for your existing Net/Internet connection on your PC. I get a connection throughout my two story house, but not the basement. I'm very happy with the setup.

Since you have a T68, presumably with built-in bluetooth support, would having the Red-M Blade be a better solution to consider?

Experience is what happens when something unexpected comes up.

The Blade MIGHT be a better solution but considering I already HAVE a Bluetooth adapter for my Handspring - I don't see the need (yet) to buy a different one.


Johnking -> THANK YOU for the web page - I have now been able to install drivers and software for my PC-USB adapter and I have confirmed its functionallity with my T68 phone (sent a business card from the phone to the PC and it worked ) Unfortunately I'm still struggling with my Handspring solution. So far I've been able to discover the PC using the Handspring (widcomm) program and I can even list the different services the USB Bluetooth adapter offers, however, at this time I'm still unable to establish a connection between the visor and the pc. I think I might be going about this in the wrong way - I go to Prefs and then to connection, I setup a new custom connection which I tell to use USB/Serial to connect. I do that because that is how I have been able to use the Xircom 802.11 device and it has worked. Is there a different way I need to be addressing the Bluetooth? Can someone send me the Red-M .prc so that I can try using it instead? I'd appreciate any assistance in this matter.
