Angry

I just bought a new computer with Windows Me. I installed the Handspring Desktop software (from the CD that came with the Visor Deluxe) and the Visor cannot connect to the computer when I press the hotsync button.

Has anyone successfully hotsynced their Visor using Windows Me and a USB cradle?!

Please help!

Thanks!

Hi,

Same thing happenned with my new Dell/WinMe about a month ago. I used these instructions that I found here in a different post. Worked like a charm! (disclaimer, backup your work first!)

quote:

Try to remove the entry VID_082D&PID_0100 from your registry, it's somewhere under the entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Enum/usb (the exact steps are mentioned somewhere on this board, just search for 'usb' and 'hotsync '). After that try to sync, if it still doesn' t work, just run the hardware detection again. This worked fine for me...

Question And I tried the Registry Patch from the Handspring site!

Handspring listed a few patches, most notably one which should "clear the registry." I have tried all the software updates from the Handspring site - still doesn't work.

Is the solution in the above post different from the Handsping registry cleaner?

[I'm also using a Dell/WinMe...]

Thanks!

It was a cut and paste from a Handspring support rep's email to a VC'er, who posted the resolution here. Hey, it worked for me! My symptoms were that my PC recognized the Visor, and said it was configuring it, when I first attempted a hotsync... But, it never brought up the hotsync app on the pc...

I've been hotsyncing with a compaq PC running windows ME and a USB cradle. It worked from the first day I tried it, about a month ago, no problems.

Do other USB devices work?

You may need to enable USB support in the system bios. I have seen a number of new computers that have had this option disabled by default.

Does The System Recognize The Visor?

When you try syncing for the first time after you have installed the hardware, does the system say "New Hardware Found - Handspring Visor" or does it say "New Hardware Found - Unknown USB Device"? If it installs an "Unkown USB Device" you may have an obstruction between the pick-ups on the Visor unit and the Sync cradle. Make sure the contacts are all clean, and that nothing is out of alignment.

Download the latest desktop software from HS's website. I've been using that version with no problems since I switched to ME.
