i have the prism/vp combo alluded to ad infinitum on this thread, and i CANNOT get connected to the internet. i've tried the changes suggested above, and many combinations of them, and still cannot. i live near kansas city, and the 913 number would be local, but i get the error message that it's busy or not the correct number. should i call voicestream/t-mobile customer service? i'd like to feel that i'm getting the most out of my combo, but i feel that i'm obsessing about it. what are my options to get me connected?

t.i.a.,

i've had this working for a couple of weeks now. i am now having problems with sending mail - getting read / write errors on outgoing smtp. i can receive mail but have only managed to send a couple of emails and have kept getting the error. i get this with both eudora and one touch. last night i had to do a hard reset as i had a meltdown while changing batteries. (warning - disconnect your vphone and make sure visor is off when you do this. i thought i had fried it - thankfully i was able to restore everything on the initial hotsync. don't know if that has anything to do with it. anyone else experiencing network problems like this? had to happen during "free weekends"...

turns out my problem was the smtp servers at comcast, my ISP. although they claim that they do not have authenticating SMTP servers, i am pretty sure they did for about a month. then it sputtered to a stop...

Posted by joesmith on 10-02-2002 03:02 PM:

guess what, i tried it again last night and was asked for authentication on outgoing mail and it's working again!

comcast: "ask me no questions and i'll tell you no lies"

thanks - i'll let you know what i come up with. i haven't had a chance to put your suggestions to use.

I think this is an awesome feature to use dialup from this dns # blazer works great for me using it, only now i want to setup my sms with one touch email so i can use it as my primary email account

SMS & one touch

i don't believe it's possible to set up one-touch to use sms; and even if you did sms is limited to 160 characters; not good for a primary email acct

Has anyone had problems with the VoiceStream / T-Mobile data number this weekend? It had been working fine for me for months but stopped a few days ago.

I can still dial up and establish a connection, but none of my data-enabled apps work. I think it's down to the DNS, and I've tried several different Primary DNS settings, as well as checking "Query DNS", but nothing seems to work. Anyone else?

Connection problem

I have had problems for a while now. I also can connect and everything seems fine but Blazer can't even find the home page. I get an error meesage about the signal strength being weak, but I have a full strength signal. I'm not sure what the problem is. Anyone have any ideas?

Unhappy dial in problems

I've also had problems connecting to T-Mobile. I upgraded my Treo to GPRS recently, but following other (treocentral.com) discussions I don't think this is the source of my problem. I dial into T-Mobile's number and connect as usual, but then my apps (email and Blazer) cannot do anything. Any suggestions?

Haven't gotten e-mail or web pages for about a week and a half now. Most frustrating. I'm wondering if this is part of the shutting down of the ISDN lines associated with the upgrade to G-something or other. Obviously I really know what I'm talking about here!

Anyway, I've tried several other of the lines from various sources, and can't find one that works. Anyone else working? If so, what number are you dialing?

Thanks!

ok i had problems with this too when i first tried it out. If you have the internet suite cd that came with your visorphone just put it in and enter the info accordingly, or from your handheld go to system prefs then go to connection make sure its configured to standard modem then go to network (still in system prefs) enter tmobile as the service name enter under user name your full telephone number without spaces example : 17185553232 then under password enter the same password you use for accessing your voicemail, under connection enter current, then the dial up number (enter under phone enter 19132440821 unless your local area code is 913 whereby you dont need to enter an area code you enter 2440821 then go to details click ip adress automatic to the on position (checked) set idle timeout to your preferences, the connection type is ppp and you can either enter query dns to the checked position or enter a dns manually which you can call voicestream and they will give you that information. hope this was helpful

email and blazer

ok as far as blazer if you connected fine and blazer is not working then there is something wrong that i cannot fix, i suggest reinstalling it, or since you have a treo get netspring its much faster than blazer anyway and its free you can find it at handango. for the email i only know the one touch software by jpmobile and i believe treomail may be different, but heres what to do with one touch - go to setup then account setup select newthen edit enter the pop3 number then your account name which is the same as your email except do not enter the @___ part just what is before the @, then enter ypur password then stmp # then your name and email adress, now go to advanced the numbers for a standard pop3 account should be as follows
port #s smtp 25 pop3 110 then time out values dns=30 connection to server=30 smtp/pop3 transaction=30 then go to options select your personal preferences i suggest check leave copy of email on server in case you fail to download onto handheld nothing will be lost then set truncate and download for large messages i.e. greater than 40000 bytes or skip it hope this helped

I called T-Mobile customer service, and, although they were very polite, were completely clueless about the VisorPhone. They offered to transfer me to their Wireless Data group, but stopped when they realized that group was closed for an "emergency." The only other thing they suggested was contacting Handspring customer service, which I didn't bother because I knew the answer there would be "contact T-Mobile."

I bet it's the DNS address. I have seen before where DNSes stop responding, then someone discovers a new one. I had been using 65.161.188.100, and I've tried checking "Query DNS," but nothing works. Anyone have a new address?

Posted by cakennedy on 12-03-2002 12:11 AM:

Well, it's probably not DNS server; it looks like T-Mobile shut the whole thing off. I'll call tomorrow and see if there's any future to it.

Exclamation

Yep, it's dead.

I discovered this a couple weeks ago...
To confirm, connect to T-Mobile and in the Network preferences panel, choose
Menu | Options | View Log (V) *
Scroll to the bottom and note that the Gateway has no IP (0.0.0.0).

The problem is that they are no longer providing a gateway. Sure, you can connect fine, but (as observed) the packets go nowhere.

This really pisses me off... No notice, no warning, and no recompense!
It wouldn't be quite as bad if T-Mobile offered reasonably priced GPRS data plans, but of course, they don't.
And also, we with VisorPhones can't even upgrade to GPRS if we wanted to, so we're SOL.

At least I've still got regular dialup...

If I thought it would help, I would request that we barrage them with phone calls demanding that they restore the ISDN line. However, we all know that this is a calculated move by the execs to railroad subscribers into the more expensive GPRS plans thereby forcing handset upgrades.

* BTW, the log is more than just a log... You can ping and traceroute from here as well.
For a list of commands enter a ? followed by a return stroke/key.
To get syntax, enter a command, followed by "options" and the ?, like this:
ping options ?
nettrace options ?

Unhappy Awww

I think the ISP is gone now. This really sucks, I liked that ISP. It connected faster than my other dialup and was FREE. Dang you T-Mobile!
