The Samsung Data Cables can either be found by themselves at CompUSA in the cellular section, (mine is made by Belkin) or boxed in with the Samsung version of FoneSync PRO software which I recommend. Although the software is $60, you get the cable free with it... and it's really cool to be able to sync your phone to your visor to boot.

I'm on the Mark/Space site and am confused. There are quite a few Visor cables available, but none mention anything about "Samsung" compatability. Any specific models that will only work w/ the Samsung phone?

Also, what exactly does the FoneSync software do? It it essential to connect your Visor/Samsung to the internet?

Do you know if the Samsung Data Cable is available directly from Samsung?

Thanks for the information!

If you do that, sometimes they sell out due to preorders and you end up waiting longer like the Markspace cables. Plus, I got mine for only $29.95, and now they are $39.95. That's what's kept me from canceling it!

True true, but now everyday you're wondernig if the cabling is going to come... it's kinda an agonizing feeling!

No...I'm pretty sure it's not going to come anytime soon, but they are agonizing and wondering how many sales they are going to lose!

Unfortunately they're the only company with the one cable solution... Too bad there is not competition to hasten things.

Also, they charge a crazy amount of shipping to Canada... for a small cable

What's the shipping cost to Canada? I was hoping it wouldn't have been expensive, especially with the really bad exchange rate.

having problems with 2 cable solution

currently this is how my connection looks like this
visor delux => MS cable => sprint pcs wireless web connection kit => samsung 3500

I am using QNC settings for my network and my modem settings are also set as suggested in this thread(14000,OFF,OFF,OTHER,AT&FX4). When I try to dial I see my cell phone attempting to dial #2932. It successfully makes the connection, after 3 seconds, it disconnects.

on my PDA I get
Error: no carrier 0x1102

Any suggestions/help would be appreciated.
thanks!

Did you make sure you got the 'modified' modem cable from MS? I will bet you didn't.

The Visor drops the signal because of the TX/RX lines between it and the phone. Trust me I had the same problem for weeks until I modified the cable myself. The visor is pretty picky with the Samsung phone. This is the only way I got it to work.

If you want, you can modify the cable yourself, there are instructions somewhere. (all I had to do was connect two pins with a short wire in the db9 end - piece of cake)

Or you can exchange cables with MS, I am sure they will be accommodating... Or, you can return it and get the supply-net (Vapor) cable.

Talking Is it finally here?

E-mailed thesupplynet.com and got a response back in about an hour (not too bad). Asked when it was going to ship and why shipping was so high. Response is posted below. Also.. thanks to all who are providing info on how this all works. I am waiting until the single cable cable comes out. Please post feedback ASAP so all of us lurkers know if it works well or not.

The cables should be here today. You should receive it next week.
I'll check into the freight issue.

Re: Re: having problems with 2 cable solution

When I ordered the cable from markspace(I ordered it sometime in february and got the cable in march, I guess) I called them up and asked them to make sure that they give me the cable with the modifications. Appararently, they didn't. Since I already bought the MS cable, I have to choose between making the modifications myself and exchanging this one with a new cable from mark space.
Thanks!

Re: Re: having problems with 2 cable solution

I connected the #4 and #7 in DB9 and now I get a modem not found error!
any ideas to what might be wrong?

Re: Re: having problems with 2 cable solution

I have soldered a wire between #4 and #7 pins in the DB9 connector of the mark space cable. I still have the same problem. After staying connected for 3-4 seconds, it gets disconected.
I guess I will try a few more things before I order a cable from supply net.
thanks!

Will I be able to use AIM with the SupplyNet cable, my prism, and my samsung phone?

I havent ordered the cable yet, kinda waiting to see what happens with them. But I would like to know what I can do (my limitations) when I do get it.

Thanks A Million

jmlg,
I can't testify from experience, but I think you should be able to use AIM. The only downside is that you can't use a keyboard at the same time...if only someone would make an affordable cell-phone connecter that uses the springboard slot.

Posted by patwoods on 04-24-2001 04:17 PM:

delayed again...

Looks like May 1st for the shipping date on the 3500 cable from Supply Net...

Maybe I will get it in 2001.

Posted by creole on 04-24-2001 10:53 PM:

yeah...

I saw that they had changed it too. I am almost tempted to wait until someone else on the forums gets theirs. Then they can be my personal Guinea Pig.

Posted by jmlg on 04-25-2001 02:25 AM:

Would the change in date be the date that it would be shipped if you ordered it now? Or is it when all orders will be shipped. I only ask because someone a few posts ago said that SupplyNet told them they should get it next week.

Smile Shipping date removed

Anyone else notice that the whole "shipping date" thing was removed from the SupplyNet site? Makes me wonder if I can safely order my cable and actually get it in less than a year
