Can't connect with Cingular: 1231

I'm using the My Wireless Window service by Cingular on a Treo 180. It worked fine for about a month. Then the service started degrading. I'd get error 1231 about half the time when dialing up. Now 3 months in, I get it pretty much 100% when trying to dial up with TreoMail or BaseJet.

I've had Cingular "reset" my data service. I've also wiped my palm and reinstalled everything from scratch. No joy. I notice in Network Prefs that my choice for provider won't set reverting to the first thing on the list: Aimnet. I think it's not sticking because whenever I try the Connect button there it fails.

Anyhoo. I've gone back to my blackberry which works perfectly and I'm just bummed that I wasted all this money on a Treo (supposed blackberry slayer).

I've given up on Cingular tech support as the are truly clueless... What's a Treo?

Anyone have any idea what's going on? Any magic words I can tell Cingular to try? Thanks.
