AT&T wireless service & Prism?
My 1 year contract is up with AT&T wireless so I go into their retail store to see what phone I could trade to be able to use to connect to the internet. Well apparently from what the guy told me you cant without omnisky modem???? I dont want to spend that kind of money and service for something I am only going to use once in awhile, I thought if I bought Palm Internet mobile kit with a compatible phone that would be good enough.
....to make a long story short. Has anybody been able to make a internet connection through AT&T?
Nope. As was explained in another thread (which I cannot find right now), AT&T uses TDMA and is not data-capable; and CDPD, which is data-capable ... but few phones can connect your Visor to that, and if you do, AT&T charges by the kilobyte.
That's why, when my contract with AT&T was up, I switched to Verizon.

Thanks for the thread info.
My ideal connection setup is to be able to use the IR port to be able to utilize my keyboard and module. Im not a heavy PDA user and at most just to be able to check & send email. Visor Phone doesnt appeal to me b/c I dont carry my Prism everywhere.
Being that AT&T is out, anyone have any suggestions to a good provider and phone to use?
I have had very good experiences using Verizon and a Startac phone w/ data cable connected to my VPR. I can log in to my regular ISP (AT&T Worldnet) and do anything that I can do from my home computer.

After work I will be heading down to look around Verizon outlet today and see whats available, thank you.
One other thing, I use AT&T broadband service and only get one hour of regular dial up service a month for free, after that I forget what the charge is per hour. Do you encounter this problem?
No, I'm strictly dial-up at home and through my VPR. I get (basically) unlimited time for $20/month and have never had any extra charge and I've been with Worldnet since they first started around '94-'95.
With the plan I have with Verizon, my time dialing in through my cell phone & VPR goes against my plan minutes and I have enough of those that I never even come close to using them all.
Good Luck.
