alright, I've been doing my homework.

I set up my network and connections per this thread. The plat seems to be attempting to connect with the phone.

The phone isn't responding in any way, shape or form. Just sits there. Yes, I'm setting the IR activation on.

I've checked the phone firmware version, per Toby's directions. It's v2.06 dated 4/12/01 NPW-1 (whatever that means).

I've got service through AT&T, but I can't imagine that makes a huge difference, would it? It should be just like making any other call, right?

Oh, and I have no problems sending a business card from the Plat to the 3360...

No, your cellular provider must additionally support wireless data, and the service must be activated on your account. I'm not sure what AT&T calls their service, though, or if they even offer it. The catch is that there isn't really a 'modem' on the phone. It's just a conduit to a 'modem emulation' which has to be running on the cellular provider's switch. If the carrier doesn't support the service, and/or it isn't activated on your account, you'll probably just get a fast busy-type signal (several rapid beeps - between 3-5 IIRC). If that's what you're getting, you'll need to talk to your cell provider.

I'm not hearing ANYTHING. The phone just sits there no differently than if the visor is turned off in the other room with no batteries in it.

Should the phone or the visor be making these sounds?

Hmm...the phone. What program are you using to try and connect? I'm just trying it on my Edge (my service provider doesn't support wireless data, so I can't tell you what a successful connection does in fact, only what it should if Nokia's manuals are correct

). I turned on IR on the phone and went into Prefs -> Network and hit connect. Oddly, it did nothing seemingly. To make sure the behavior remembered wasn't some synaptic hallucination, I went into AvantGo and tried to initiate a remote sync. _Now_ I got the behavior I described (brief attempt to connect followed by 6 beeps). When the connection is really being attempted, you should see the blinking IR symbol on the phone go solid. Strange thing was that when I got back into Prefs -> Network, it acted as originally expected again (brief attempt to connect followed by 6 beeps). It seems like there's something off in the Visor's behavior (bug perhaps?). If you've got a program that hooks into the Network API, try using that to connect instead of the Prefs interface, and see what it does.

I'm sure I can find one somewhere. I'll give it a try.

I called AT&T to ask them what the deal was. Apparently they don't support wireless data either - unless you want to ante up for the GSM phone. I just got this 3360 like 4 months ago. GSM wasn't an option - now they're forcing it on me.

Thanks again. I'll post if I make any progress. You can assume that silence here is me festering in a state of non-connectiveness.
