-- any canadians using their visor wirelessly on fido? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=11091)
I'd like to be able to go online wirelessly via a Fido cell phone, but It's pretty hard to find out anything about those types of services on their webpage.
If anyone is browsing wirelessly on Fido's network, I'd like to hear about the phone your using, where you got the data cable(s?) and how much it costs you per month.
thanks?

I have a webcomic. You should read it, or I may do something rash. Drive-by Loitering is updated every monday, wednesday and friday.

They told me it should work, but I spoke to several people and they weren't 100% sure. I know that it WON'T work with the 5190 and 6190, even if a cable existed, because these phones do not have built in modem's. The Visor Deluxe with extra software and the Prism/Platinum likely will work with the 8890 phone, but that's damn expensive. Plus the Fido $200 package price is way overpriced. I've been told it's mandatory, even if you don't plan on installing any of the software, but one rep said you might be able to get around that - check it out.
Fido News coming soon
This won't quite answer your question, but it is related. I was in the Vancouver Fido store on Friday picking up an analog module for my 5190 (which makes it feel like a small brick), and asked about their Internet services. Supposedly they're due to announce something this month (which is almost over), involving at least WAP access. I also talked with a CSR recently about the visorphone, which is an (expensive) option, since though they don't officially support it, your SIM card would make it work on the Fido system. He said that this year they should be launching GPRS services too, but no details as to how this would work with phones, data etc. I imagine they'll have new phone models such as Motorola or Ericsson that have GPRS data capabilities built in.
Finally, I believe the Motorola Timeport Trimode phone they support has an IR port for wireless data connections to a computer/pda. It is $600 CDN, but I've seen them on Ebay for $100 to $150 US. The previous poster seemed to think you might be able to get a data account without their software. I don't know anything about that.
I'm curious to see if anyone else has more info on this...
