PC -> PDA -> mobile phone to browse the internet?
Hello,
I have just bought a new mobile phone with an infra red port. I understand it is possible to connect to the internet with the PDA through the phone. But.... it is possible to connect the PDA to a PC and be able to browse the internet on the PC? Sort of like using the PDA as an interface between the PC and the mobile phone.
Thanks for your help.
Nick.
In effect converting the Visor into some kinda router? You'll need network address translation (NAT) software for the Visor, haven't come across any. But why bother using the Visor as an intermediary, apart from the cool-geek factor? Should be able to connect the phone and the PC directly, possibly through a data cable, and the appropriate software on the PC. What's your cell phone model?
Well, the "cool-geek" image wasn't really what I was after, more of the "cheapy-quick-fixer" as I don't really want to fork out 50 quid for a USB to Infra-Red adapter.
My phone is the Nokia 8310.
But from what you said, it sounds like even if the software existed, it would be more hassle that it's worth.
Nick.
I'd be surprised if it didn't exist. My Siemens ME45 has such a program, and it wasn't not any trouble at all to set up. All I had to do was run it -- as I recall, it came as a self-installing .EXE file. It created a Dialer shortcut on my Desktop that looks and acts just like the icon I would use to dial an ISP. There should be something similar for the 8310 -- check Nokia's Web site, navigate to Support or Downloads. You'd also need a data cable, which I think is easy to find for Nokias. Dunno though if they have USB cables -- the ones I've seen are serial, and if you don't have one on your PC, you may have to spring for a USB-to-serial converter.
Regards, and good luck.
