no hot sync when online

Hi All;
Brand new to handhelds so hope this is the
proper forum.

Have a Visor deluxe, hot sync with a serial cradle
(win95 on desktop)
can hot sync to heart's content when nothing else is running, but try to auto update my
epocrates program while online, keep getting error code 6410 connection lost.

All ideas appreciated.
