-- How many free Digital Links have been activated? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=28721)

Talking Digital Link

Why would I want Sprint phone service here in Myrtle Beach SC? GMS phone service is GREAT!!I only got the DL for the charger and the battery. The battery is almost 2 times the power of the HS battery. I can recharge about every 4 days with the DL battery.

whiteytech, that's awesome!
I was wondering whether the batteries were compatible. I'm glad to know that the are! I may stop by the local "multi-brand" mobile phone store to find out whether T-Mobile's GSM is any good where I live. Have you, or anyone tried "T-Mobile Internet" (or whatever they call it)? That's supposed to be 3G (but you don't have unlimited bandwidth like w/ the Sprint/Handspring Treo 300). I'd love to have a VisorPhone that communicates at faster speeds.

Perhaps the network connection process is faster? How long does it take to get a connection on T-Mobile using the "free" ISDN number? How long does a connection take using 3G (or is there even any connection since it is packet data)? Can you override 3G by dialing out to the ISDN number via the modem?

Up in the Northeast US, Sprint has good connections near Interstate highways. I hear from people to this board that GSM gets a lot of dropped calls while travelling. I got two drops while calling Sprint customer service between Boston, MA -> Johnston, RI and back (to give a data point for this metric w/ CDMA on highways). So "why would anybody" is probably a little too general: for some people GSM will be awesome and for others CDMA, TDMA,
etc. Only choices for the Visor are GSM and CDMA.

I feel I've diverged this thread quite a bit from it's original topic.
Perhaps new readers can also remember piotrek's original question:

How about a small survey. ...

I am using: __________ (state which Visor model)

Number of free Digital Link modules: __

Number of activated DL modules: __

Looks like handspring is no longer giving these babies away....

http://www.handspring.com/products/...jhtml?id=170003

They now run for $19.95 plus shipping.

My visorphone is on the fritz and handspring isn't selling them anymore. So I'm thinking maybe its time to give the DL a try. Does anyone have an extra unit they'd like to sell for a couple bucks? I'll even let you keep the charger. I've got a prism with two chargers already. I assume those chargers will charge up the DL battery.

Dude, I have about a dozen, sans batteries and charger cables though. If anyone is interested in just the springboard, drop me a line and we can discuss.

I bought a stack of these at the beginning, and sold off the batteries (as VisorPhone batteries), the headsets, and the chargers separately... It was a good run while it lasted, but barely made it worth the effort after all that shipping.

Anyhow, I still have a load of these, let's talk...
