Wireless Web

No, you don't have to have PCS Vision. I have the Sprint Digital Link and I can access the web and email just fine. What I didn't know, though, is that unlimited night and weekends doesn't apply to wireless web. I was happily surfing and checking email last night for at least half an hour, thinking I was doing it on unlimited time. I'm going to call customer service just to confirm.

Thanks for the head up!

I have a question on using the Sprint Wireless Web DL with Yahoo mail.

Is it possible? How would I do this.

Thanks,

Sprint Wireless Web Minutes

Hello and good afternoon,

I've been using my Visor Pro connected to my Motorola StarTac via cable for a couple of months now. I have been and continue to be a Sprint PCS customer, with the Free and Clear Plan. I pay the extra $5.00 a month to use my airtime minutes as wireless web minutes.

It has been my experience that the wireless web minutes are not instantly deducted as "anytime" minutes. It has been my experience that the wireless web minutes I have used at night and on weekends have been deducted as "night and weekend" minutes.

The Free and Clear plan gets me slower access to the web, but what is the actual cost? I am mostly interested in data access.

Once again... the Digital Link will NOT work with the Vision plans. Vision takes advantage of the new 3G technology that the Digital Link does NOT support. The DL WILL work on a Free & Clear plan with ($5.00/mo) or without ($.40/minute) the Wireless Web option. As for where the actual airtime minutes come from, I'm not sure... I was under the impression they were handled like voice minutes so it depended on time of day.

I often use Yahoo Mail with my Prism & Digital Link. I open my Blazer browser, and go to http://mobile.yahoo.com/home

In fact, you can use your desktop to go to that site, too, so you'll know how it looks. The yahoo mobile site does not read cookies, though, so you'll have to log in each time.

Finally got hold of a Sprint PCS rep. Waited on the phone forever...

According to the guy DL is only available with Free and Clear plans because DL was made for the old network. For $30/month you get 300 anytime minutes and unlimited nights and weekends. For additional $5/month you get Wireless Web; data minutes come out of your plan depending on the time of the data call. Thus, at night and during weekends you have unlimited access to the web.

The rep was surprized when I told him that the module was marked "Qualcomm 3G CDMA". He put me on hold; after a short while he came back and explained that DL is 3G for voice only. Data, i.e., Vision, is still at the regular old network speed.

So, for $35/month with 300 anytime minutes and unlimited nights and weekends, is it worth it. You be the judge...

I haven't had many problems...

Wow, sorry to hear you guys are having such problems with the link. I've had mine about a month now and really haven't had ANY problems with it. When I was still using my kyocera phone, I had tons of dropped calls and horrible reception. Cali is pretty bad for sprint reception from what I hear... it was just as bad in FL before I moved, tho. I think sprint just sucks to put it nicely.

My thing about it is: how does it bill out the minutes? When I use eudora to check my email, it connects to sprint and disconnects once it gets the mail... do I get hit with one minute every time I do that? If so, that's crazy... you couldn't use it during the day whatsoever! Ahhwell.

Talking Upgrading from WW to Treo 300

Sprint & Handspring are smart!!

I have been a visor user for a few years. I was eyeing the Treo and other pda phones.

I saw the offer for the free Wireless Web. I got it and now I have a new Treo 300 ordered and coming on Monday.

They must know that giving away the Wireless Web increases interest and sales in their new Treo 300.

What kind of connection speeds are you guys able to get with the Digital Link? For example, I constantly connect at 9.6 kbps with my Visorphone.
