Does VisorCentral Hate Me?

Greetings fellow VC'ers. This is slot_again, formerly slotmachine , formerly Slot_Machine. About a week ago, I was no longer able to post to VC under the slotmachine userid. I'm wondering if it had something to do with changing the e-mail address in my profile. Whatever the reason, I have very politely asked for help from the VC staff via board e-mail, and external e-mail. I e-mail and e-mail, but nobody ever replies. This is the same reason I had to switch from Slot_Machine to slotmachine. I got one response from ToolKit back then. After that, dead silence.

I realize that I probably did something stupid technically both times to cause the VBulletin software to restrict my id(s). I can be a real bonehead at times. I'm not really upset about that. I am upset and puzzled at the lack of response to help requests from VC staff. This is a great board. Everything about this website suggest that the people that run it are advocates of Palm OS users in general and Handspring users in particular.

So why the silence? I know there is a lot to do to keep a website's content current, but six emails unanswered? Two weeks of waiting? (several months if you go back to Slot_Machine) I just don't understand. I'm trying very hard not to take this personally.

Can you guys help me out here? If anyone else has had a similar problem with permissions mysteriously being restricted, please post what your solution was. And if there is any VC staff monitoring this thread, give a loyal member a break and help me out here!

Still Loyal
Good 'ol Slot

We don't hate you (or any of our wonderful members).

Unfortunately, I don't know enough about vBulletin to be able to help with your problem. I do know that other members have had the same trouble when changing their email address.

The person you need to contact is marcus (if you haven't already). We moderators just watch over the forums; the workings of them falls to marcus.

Thanks MarkEagle. You are an excellent moderator and a truly great American! I just e-mailed marcus.

This is exactly what happened to me a couple of months ago; I used to be Usonian, and when I was approaching 200 posts I suddenly lost the ability to post; I could log in, change my preferences (even my avatar,) but posting was verboten. I also contacted a moderator who contacted Marcus, but nothing really came of it... hence, Usonian2001.

And now that you mention it, I wonder if I changed my e-mail address right before my old account stopped working, too. Hmmm...

This is interesting. When I changed my e-mail address about three months back I did not have a problem. Maybe they really don't like you!

Do you remember the sequence you used to change your password? How about you PathDoc?

It was a few months ago but when I found out my new e-mail address (I started a new job), I logged onto VC and went to my profile. I then clicked "edit profile" and entered my new address twice and selected submit changes. Now that I think about it, I was asked for my password which it didn't want to take initially. I had assumed that I had simply mistyped it, still a possibility. I didn't have any troubles after entering the password a second time, however. I haven't had any troubles since. Hope that this helps.

No we don't hate anybody out here (at least I don't)

As MarkEagle said, Marcus handles these kind of things...

Could very well be that because of the change to V3 he hasn't had the time to follow up on it... he has been extremely busy..

Apoligies for those who were disconnected for a while. It is good to see you found a workaround for the problem...

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?

Thanks for taking the time to reply TK. I will continue to remind him from time to time.

I have a question/statement that may be extremely obvious, but here goes. Did you reply to the automated email that is sent by VisorCentral when you change your Email?

Everytime I change my email, and I have done it twice, I got sent an email. This email has a link in it that you must click on and it confirms your re-registration. In fact, I just did this today.

I know this may be obvious, but I had not seen it mentioned and wanted to make sure you were aware of it.

Thanks for the tip GRS, but I never got an e-mail at either the e-mail address I was changing from, or the one I was changing to. How long before you got the e-mails? A couple of minutes I'm guessing.

Yes, I got the email almost immediately. It was there by the time I could get logged in and check it.

Here was my procedure exactly:

Hit VisorCentral.com Dicussion Board
Log in - if not already done so by Cookie's
Choose Settings
Choose Edit Profile
Change Email Address
Change Confirm Email Address so they match
Submit Modifications
Then I was prompted that I would receive an email instructing me to complete my Registration.
Checked Email and Received Notification
Clicked Link
Screen said, Thank you for your registration GSR13, you will now be taken to the Discussion Thread.

At this point, I was no allowed to Post again. Before, I could view messages and adjust my settings, but I could not post.

I am guessing that somehow this has happened to you. Perhaps you can still edit your old Slot_Machine ID or slotmachine and change the email address again. Perhaps then you would get the email.

Or maybe Marcus can somehow complete the registration from his end and get your ID working again.

Thanks for the help GRS. I got as far as "submit modifications" but was never notified about a confirmation e-mail. Good idea about the other other ids, I just need to set up a new e-mail account somewhere.

Still no word from Marcus....
