-- Visorphone/V-stream works without ISP (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=19305)
I get the same error code as Kent and am using Blazer 2.0. I don't know why. I think have everything set up as stated in all these different posts. I wonder of the number I use is in service or if its the IP address that I use.
Also works *with* an ISP
This might be a "duh", but I could not get my visorphone to work with the Voicestream "ISP" number touted above, but I can get it to dial in just fine to my usual dial-up ISP. I have avantgo syncing, pop email loading, WAP browsing, etc.
From what I can tell from the VoiceStream folk (very nice, but not knowledgeable about the VisorPhone at all) iStream is not compatible with the Visorphone, so don't even think about going there; so you need to make data calls to your ISP and just chew up minutes.
I was on the phone with the VoiceStream rep for about a half-hour trying to make sure my MSISDN bit set to data etc - the poor guy was trying to get tech support internally but was never successful; he also claims the 'note' described above no longer exists. No matter, if I can connect with my ISP I assume my line is data capable & I'm happy.
FWIW, I cannot get One-Touch mail V2.1 to sync with my Netscape mailbox. From what I can read this is a common problem.
Auth failure (0x1233)
I've been using my VisorPhone & VDx setup for quite a while (but not in last 3 weeks or so), but I'm hitting a roadblock all of a sudden.
Now when I connect, it dials, then sign on (negotiating), then errors out with this: "Error: authentication failure (0x1233)"
That's gotta be my username/password, but I've checked the " " (single space) at least a hundred times. Has something changed?
FWIW, here are my settings:
DNS: 65.161.188.100
Init string: AT&FX4;+cbst=71,0,1
Phone #: 19132440821
Is anyone else running into this? Am I missing something, or has the well finally run dry?
help!

jbougher2002,
I had the same problem in Baltimore. I would travel to Washington DC daily for work, Denver for vacation, Philly for the weekend, and my data would work fine, but when I got back to Baltimore, no dice.
I spent COUNTLESS hours on the phone with the IDIOTIC VS cust serv reps going through every possible cause they could dream up for three full months.
After three months, I finally talked to some one who realized it was a 'switch' problem affecting the general Baltimore service area. The problem was fixed a week later.
Sounds like you're having the same problem. The good news is that they've realized the problem, and that's the biggest barrier. If they give you the run-around insist on the 'switch' issue.
Good luck.
(sorry for the off topic rant
)
I am getting the same "Error: authentication failure (0x1233)" problem. I am located in NYC, and have had no problems connecting up until a few days ago.
If somebody comes across a fix, please post!

Thanks! Its working now for me too in NYC. Whew!
Questions
Just to understand: What service plan should I buy if I want to try this out? They offer them for like 2.99 minimum but how much do most of you use? Does anyone know if I am going to have problem in Portland Maine? I don't want to bother if I can't use it here. If these are minutes they are just deducting from your pool, why wouldn't you stick with data stream for the extra time? Is anyone sure this isn't illegal? Sorry to ask so many questions, but I'm interested in using this service, but I'm still kind of confused

Just to be clear ... you do not want to order VoiceStream's iStream service - it is not compatible with the Visorphone (which is too bad but true).
All VisorPhone/VoiceStream data exchange is via ISP dial-up using the VisorPhone's 'modem' and VoiceStream call minutes.

NYC and Switch Problems
I was using my VDx/VP combination, happily for months and with great success utilizing my ISP, Blazer and One-Touch until Friday when Voicestream pulled the rug out from under me. All of a sudden I started getting the dreaded "Error: authentification failure (0x1233)" message. I immediately emailed my ISP, Handspring and I called Voicestream. The following was relayed to me by the VS rep from one of the technical engineers. I was told that it was a miracle that I had been able to connect up until Friday as Voicestream had been shutting down switches that transmit data and many of these had been shut down as early as three months ago! They intend, at some unknow time in the future, to replace the data transmission equipment but gave no indication of when that may happen. They could leave the switch on but I guess that's too easy for them. Bottom line is, before you drive yourself crazy wasting precious time trying to configure you Visors and Cell Phones, double check that Voicestream or whatever service your using is still transmitting data. As for me. I've been had. I actually paid full price for the Visorphone only two months before they started to give them away. Now I can only use half the features. Later this year there should be some GSM competition in the New York area and if they transmit data Voicestream will be history. If anyone in the NYC area is still able to transmit and receive data please let me know.
Thanks,
Steve

mailtag
not having much luck with the vstream set-up here in Ohio...and may be brain dead by this point...but would like to know how to use the mailtag service...their site is not terrifically helpful....am I missing something obvious...? do you use the Palm email app and then dial up somehow on the Visorphone?
Thanks...
be gentle! it's been a long day!

Possible ISP answer here!
I use my Earthlink account and Blazer to surf. Some Earthlink numbers work with the VP and some don't! Try a couple of numbers in your area and see what happens.
Good Luck!

Make sure you don't select... and change modem here....
Firstly many people are having trouble locating the modem settings. Find them in the HotSync application on the menu bar under "Connection Setup" from here you can change all the goodies!
Make sure under Country you select "other" selecting US makes your connection not work.
Also if you go to http://groups.google.com/groups?q=v...tampabay.rr.com they mention the correct string for the CT ISDN number.
All is well now! Good Luck!
Loophole still open?
I've been trying to use this information with my Treo...
I live in North NJ - anyone in NJ/NYC area that still has this successfully working, can you post the access number you used, as well as the init string and network settings used?
There seem to be many different combinations and none have worked for me as of yet. Furthest I've even gotten is a network timeout during signon - most often I get the dreaded 'data services not enabled' messages I've heard others talk of.

I hate to be a pain...
Could you shed some more light on the rest of your settings? There's a lot of conflicting information in those threads...
My current setup is as follows:
Connection setup -
Name : ISDN (not like it matters)
Connection Method : Wireless Modem to Modem
Dialing : TouchTone
Volume : High
Speed : 57600
Country : Other
Flow Ctl : Automatic
Init String : AT&FX4;+cbst=71,0,0;
Network Configuration -
Service : Voicestream (not like this matters either
)
Username : (single space)
Password : (single space)
Connection : ISDN
Phone : 12034349933
Connection Type : PPP
Idle Timeout : 3 Minutes
Query DNS : Yes
IP Address : Automatic
Thanks in advance for any help...
