Talking Geek factor of VisorPhone

OK gang, I got my visorphone yesterday and have been playing around with it. I think my wife now things I went off the deep end of geek-dom. It was bad enough having 3 different palm devices, but now holding my Prism up to my ear and talking... thats a whole new story.

Anyone else having these issues?

OK, I do have one real question. Using VoiceStream and Blazer dialing in to the Internet, I am assuming that these minutes are charged against my standard account and do not count as data minutes, correct? The reason I ask is because I think I was confusing the customer care people at Voice Stream. She may have not been that familiar with the VisorPhone.

OK, one more question. I can use this like a pager with SMS, I think, but are their any sites where I can subscribe to news, weather, and sports automatically sent to the VisorPhone through VoiceStream?

Thanks alot. Now I gotta make a call. Free weekend minutes!

Yep, I'm getting labelled, perhaps deservedly, as a geek. It doesn't really bother me, though. If you dig what you do then do what you dig, I say. I think as more people start using PDA/phone or phone/PDA combos it will seem like less of a geek thing. In the mean time, don't let it bother you It's just one part of being an early adopter.

About the web browsing minutes issue, I am on the verge of ordering a VPhone too.

I had that very question this morning after reading the info on the HS web site. I called HandSpring and was told that questions regarding service would need to be answered by VoiceStream. I called VS and they told me all about their DataStream plan for an additional 30 bucks. When I asked about whether I could my regular minutes to dial up my existing ISP I was referred back to HS because VS doesn't have the specifics of the hardware's capabilities (I suppose another pitfall of being an early adopter.)

So I called HandSpring back and Explained the situation. At first the Customer Service Rep. told me that I could use my regular minutes for data but seemed a little unsure, when pressed, she asked someone who actually uses a VPhone and the verdict was that you can use your regular minutes for the modem.

If anyone else knows differently or can confirm this, please fill us in, because I didn't have the utmost confidence in my CS rep's Knowledge.

I got my VP yesterday. When I signed up, I did not buy DataStream. I have ben successful at browsing the web with BrowseIt and my regular ISP, so I suspect I'm using "voice" minutes.
