-- Enabled Gzip compression, any speed difference? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=11490)
We installed PHP 4.04 this evening and enabled GZIP compression on all php pages.
This should (theoretically) speed the discussion board pages up some, let me know if you notice any difference.

no change for me-
BUT!! I'm on 56k, and after the new server, their's not much mroe you can do. It's my upload speed, and askign for new data. So while it might be faster on a DSL onie, I'm not that lucky
Besides, shoudln't compression SLOW it? becasue the server has to uncompress the data before sending it, or are my thoughts screwed up?
NO (I left the above for historical sake) actually it is alot faster! great job marcus! I shoudl really try it out before posting

Seems like php 4.04 with Gzip managed to crash the webserver... That's why it was down for about 20 minutes today (between 1.40 pm and 2.00pm).
We disabled the compression for now, and if it continues to Signal 11 (ie crash) on Apache we will move back to php 4.01
