Seriously, please get rid of those JAVA ads...they gind the site down to a slow, painful pace. Even on my new G4, it can take 15 seconds for a page to load that has those annoying Java ads.

OK, that 'Slap Me Silly' add is just as annoying as the monkey.

What 3rd class marketing degree do the people that design these ads come from??????

Arrow

Go to www.junkbusters.com and use their web proxy on your computer to block ads. Granted, it's not the easiest setup, and may take some work, trial and error, but could be well worth it.

I don't mind banner ads...hey they pay for the site...there is just no reason to have them made in Java. That just sslllloowwwsss everything down.

I have noticed that there seems to be little, if any ads that would actually appeal to this audience (hand help/computer users). Most of the ads seem to be targeting old-lady-bingo types.

also see thios thread:

I downloaded the banner killer and it works like a charm...

I don't want to have visorcentral money for not having the banners anymore but I was never clicking on them anyway....

Toolkit,

We get paid by the number of impressions (page views), not the number of click throughs.

I don't mind the use of banner blockers, as long as just a few people are doing it and it does't affect the advertising potential of VC (and keep buying from the store )

Folks while I hate those monkey flashing light ads just like you, I do believe you need to put this "banner blocking" thing into perspective. Imagine if everyone on the net uses one of these things... Do you honestly think some of the great and free services and resources on the net such as VisorCentral would exist today? After all someone have to pay the bill.

I think that most people don't mind banner ads as long as they are not too large or annoying. Unfortunetely, too may are just that and as long as they are, I am going to block them. Hopefully advertisers will get the message and start toning things down. Maybe this will happen if a large percentage of people start blocking.

TV ads are the same. There are some that I enjoy watching and others that force me to change the channel.

Maybe advertisers whould test their banner ads with focus groups just like tv ads. Some of the ads I see on the net is god-damn aweful.

Anyhow I think we would all be greatful if VisorCentral start to have ads that are targeted to visor/Palm OS users.

Marcus,
A while back you removed some objectionable ads from VC. at that time you said to report any more that pop up. Well, here's the latest. It points you to this URL : http://jeeves.flycast.com/content/38795716.gif
Keep up the great work!

Joe
