-- Wired Ethernet & CF (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=15347)

Question

I am in dire need of connecting to our corporate LAN via wired Ethernet for connectivity testing purposes (ping, telnet, etc..). I have seen that Handera's 330 can do this via the CF slot and a CF Ethernet card. I really like my Visor Deluxe and am trying to find an Ethernet solution for it. I have pondered wireless but this means installing roughly 50 802.11b systems in various buildings. I was told by a guy at Innopocket that he does not think that a CF adapter will do the trick. Can anyone verify this for me. Does anyone know of a wired Ethernet solution in a Springboard Module? I have seen that Xircom was working on one but it does not appear on their website anymore. Thanks.

Yeah, me too.. Disappointed in Xircom on this. I was looking forward to being able to check my email etc from my customers' locations. The IR version is a little pricey for me.

It's my understanding that the CF adaptors are wired only for the memory aspect. There are also current drain concerns.

if you want wired ethernet on the palm os, you can do what i did. buy a handera. handera has written the drivers and incorporated them into their version of the palm os. they have a list of compatible cf peripherals on their site.
right now there are no wired ethernet springboards and no plans that i know of. handspring or someone else could write the drivers for the cf ethernet cards to work in the cf adapters, but i can't see anyone going to that trouble. trh/handera did, but that's their claim to fame - they give their customers what they want. i love my prism, but the handera is too slick and the lack of color is way down on my list.
