-- YadaYada gone from PalmGear (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=11427)

Just noticed that YadaYada's product isn't on PalmGearHQ's Springboard product page anymore.

Hmmmm.

Maybe they will fall out like a dotcom and leave us with our modules...

One could only pray.

That's fine. We can still use them with AT&T or BAM.

Unhappy

No, I don't think you can use AT&T or BAM, only YADA YADA., I recall reading somewhere that if you wanted to switch service to Omnisky for example , you would need a whole new Minstrel S from Omnisky! So if YADA YADA folded, you'd have a nice paper weight with an antenna. My understanding is it has something to do with the custom software loaded into the (non-user accessible) flash ram on the springboard..

For some dumb reason they are not treated like cell phones unfortunately.

Interesting...I seem to remember reading in the YY vs OS review on this site, the reviewer said both companies were supporting users switching from one service provider to the other. Whether that means they ship a new modem in exchange for the old one or just reprogram the old one, I don't know.

YadaYada seems very much alive.

I just thought it odd that PalmGear scooted them out of their "store".......wondering about complaints, etc.

These modems have the ability to customize the IP address and DNS servers. So why would you not be able to input the numbers that would match up to the other guy's service?

The software would have to be loaded. I know that with YY and GoAmerica you can download their software package that goes on the modem, so now why can you not use the modem on a different service?

I think besides adding software to the modem, the only change that YY, GoAmerica, or omniSky makes to the modem is adding that little aticker on the top of it.
