patwoods...do we know when the "all-in-one" solution will be ready?

I can't wait...

Do you think I would be safe in buying a Prism anyway? It seems as if it will only be a matter of a week or a little more before the cable is ready. DO you think it would be a good bet?

Don't worry...I won't hold you to it.

Posted by patwoods on 03-29-2001 07:40 PM:

Question sure...

If the Prism is what you want, by all means get it! I wish I could

Yes, even if the supply-net cable isn't available, we know that the workaround cable pair works. I am assuming the hotsync connector on the prism is not different from the other Visors, that is...

The price on these is now back at $39.95. Who has ordered them, and what did you pay for them?

Posted by Sue B on 03-30-2001 03:56 PM:

I ordered at 29.95. Website shows shipping pushed back to 4/10 now. I ordered the Prism this week, so I should be "good to go" with my SCH-8500 when the cable arrives!

All I can say is that I just want to connect to the Net with my Prism (soon to arrive). Is that too much to ask?

TheSupplyNet

I just called and order the cable from TheSupplyNet - and they said that it may very well be another couple of weeks? Also, the price is $39 - and they will charge you $10 for shipping and handling. That is a chunk of change for an 8 inch cable.

FYI

I just received my DCH-M9 Mark/Space datacord last night. It works well with my $22.95 "Sam3500 - Sam3500 Data Cable" from ActionWireless (http://www1.worldphones.com/).

It also works with the cable I made for my Garmin eTrex using a old serial mouse and an ePlug from http://pfranc.com/projects/g45contr/emap/index.htm .

One more thing. DCH-M9 cable I received was made from cat 5 twisted pair wire -- it is kind of stiff. I wish it was more like my mouse cable.

Hey all,
The SupplyNet cables are supposed to ship tomorrow. Has anyone heard anything yet to confirm this? I guess I'm fearing another delay since I haven't heard anything.

I hope they do ship, I emailed them a week or so ago and the guy gave me a promise they should not be delayed again. The only delay might be if they don't get them out of customs by the 10th, but he promised they would go out on the 10th. We shall see, I guess.

Unhappy 3500 cable not shipping til May 2001

ARGH! I just check SupplyNet's site, which yesterday said "shipping date 4/10/01" -- looks like the cable will be delayed another couple of weeks at the beginning of May. I wish SupplyNet would send us notifications of this delay, rather that letting us figure it out for ourselves.

I ordered in March after reading about it on this forum - can't wait to get the cable and surf using my Sprint phone & Visor!

Unhappy I couldn't wait any longer

I couldn't wait any longer. I know I am going to "get it" for this, but I went over to the darkside. I bought a PocketPC! The HP548. Don't shoot! I have already connected it to my Sprint Samsung 8500 and browsed the web with IE, checked and sent email, IM chatted using BSquare Messenger, used my serial port iBiz keyboard with Word for word processing, and Tracked my course using the GPS. The other great thing is that I only needed the cables that came with my HP and the Sprint wireless web kit wire and adapter.
It sure is nice having real RS232 support. The Visor Platinum is the worst of the Visors for RS232 serial support. Other than that it is a nice unit.

This is pretty pathetic that SupplyNet pulled that over on us. I'm about this close to cancelling my order.

Posted by mshe on 04-12-2001 08:20 AM:

Yeah... but you should do what I do... wait until it really ships before you order : )

Posted by patwoods on 04-12-2001 01:07 PM:

Angry supply-net

I think I am going to cancel as well.. they should never have put this on the site if the delay was going to be this long. What a load of crap...

If you do that, sometimes they sell out due to preorders and you end up waiting longer like the Markspace cables. Plus, I got mine for only $29.95, and now they are $39.95. That's what's kept me from canceling it!

Question Alternatives?

Seeing as how the SupplyNet cable may end up becoming "VaporWare", are there any other alternatives to connecting a Visor to a Samsung SCH-3500?

What would allow one to connect to the internet with this phone/pda combo?

Well, chief, as I wait for my cable, I can tell you that the next solution is a combo of the Mark/Space Modem Cable (the modified one for the Samsung), and the Samsung data cable. This conglomeration of cables will run you at least 50-75 dollars, not to mention that it will be about 6 feet too long for real usability. However they work fine this way. I use them in the car whenever I hit a long traffic jam to read email and surf the web...

My plan is to eventually shorten both my cables into one custom one but I think I will wait a little longer, they just cost me too much to take the chance of ruining something now that works well.

If I understand correctly, I connect the Samsung data cable to the phone-end and the Mark/Space cable to the Visor, and then connect the two?

Are there links to where I can find these two cables?

Thanks for the help!

cables

You can find the MarkSpace DataCord HS at http://www.markspace.com and make sure you get the modified new ones that work with Samsung phones...

The Samsung Data Cables can either be found by themselves at CompUSA in the cellular section, (mine is made by Belkin) or boxed in with the Samsung version of FoneSync PRO software which I recommend. Although the software is $60, you get the cable free with it... and it's really cool to be able to sync your phone to your visor to boot.

I'm feeling the same way so I called Supplynet on my dime. The woman on the phone said that the ship date would be 5/1 and original ship date was "mid-April" ( we all know that it was March 15th and moved out to 4/10). I asked her why we had not been informed of the further delay and she did not respond to that. A few hours later I got this note:

From: [email protected]
Subject: Your order
The order you placed with us on our website is currently on back order.
Your order should ship within the week of 5/21.

Thank you,
Supplynet, INC

3/15 to 4/10 to 5/1 to 5/21. Are they EVER going to ship these? Isn't there a cable maker who is willing to take our dollars and give us what we want?
