VC is the only place I've seen ads of a larger size. Popups are bad enough, but I can turn off scripting and negate those. Being that it's hideously annoying and intrusive, I would think the advertisers would want to placate the masses and switch back ... instead of forcing themselves on us. Didn't anyone learn from New Coke?

I have ad-filtering wetware. My brain ignores 99% of what I'm not interested in.
Until it was suggested that the ads were making the page overwide, I thought there was some sort of problem with either my computer or the bulletin board software.

If you are a Mozilla or NS6 user, there is a great little tool called BannerBlind that blocks out images and Flash at configurable sizes. I had checked it out a while back but didn't really use it until the VC adds started bugging me.
