-- Adios yada-yada.... (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=11800)
Well, after two Yada-Yada modems, one upgraded (RF shielded) Visor Deluxe, and countless system resets, crashes, and losses of data, I finally cancelled my Yada-Yada service. For those interested, here's a post-mortem:
THE GOOD: When it worked (without crashing) it was awesome. But I'd guess that it crashed at least 60% of the time I used it. I tried all the tricks Yada-Yada's tech support and this board offered. Nothing worked.
THE BAD: In six years of internet usage and being a pathological early adopter, I have NEVER used a product of such low quality. It costs me time, money, and precious data consistently. I find it really astonishing that Yada-Yada would release a product so not ready for prime time, and though I know many users don't seem to be having problems (god bless 'em!), many, many are. Yada-Yada's tech support folks are nice, but as one admitted: "there's nothing we can do about the crashes."
I really feel for those folks, because I can't imagine they'll be able to stay in business.
There are so many problems with Yada-Yada beyond the crashes. A website with nonexistent information and tech support. Inadequate documentation. A mail program that doesn't work well with other POP servers, and an SMTP server that doesn't work well with other mail programs. The browser is pretty good, but the application manager software Yada distributes isn't.
I have a lot of tolerance for trying new stuff; I think it's fun and I don't mind troubleshooting or dealing with problems. And wireless access is great when it works. But I draw the line and having to reset my visor so much that the darned plastic tip inside the stylus BROKE OFF!
OK, I'm done ranting. Maybe one day, Yada Yada will be better. In the meantime, I'm sticking to my WAP phone, which - though nearly useless - is at least reliable!
Good luck with your six lines of navigation... WAP is short-term. Although, the Minstrel is only a solutions for this generation of palms/visors... I think you didn't hold on long enough.
Also, how did you confuse the YY support to give you your money back?

Well, maybe I didn't hold on long enough; like I said, the service was great when it worked and really useful. But there was no way in heck I was going to pay for something that crashed so much and at least 10 times totally wiped out my data!
Wap is inadequate, you're right. But mostly if I just want to check my email, it's pretty OK - though definitely NOT if I want to reply.
As far as refunds, I was one of the lucky ones who got in on the free modem offer from December. They were probably happy to have my equipment back; all it took was a very strongly worded letter.
One day...

Eric, a manager there, has suspended two months of payment since my module has yet to work properly.
