Question wlan module by xircom

Yesterday i got my xircom wlan module.

But only trouble.

I have an apple airport network, connected over a hub with ONE windows (98) pc. The module get an ip (over dhcp), hotsync is ok, even avantgo sync wireless. WITH THE WINDOWS PC.

But when i try to connect to the internet - only errors. Blazer 1.1 and multimail (both delivered with the module), dont want to connect to the internet.

The airport basestation is connected with a 56k modem (dial in) to the internet. Im wondering about the ip addresses. Every time i connect to the basestation with my prism i get another ip. At the moment 10.0.1.25 (up to 10.0.1.12!!!). I think there is something wrong, but i cant solve the problem. Have i to use a proxy server?

When i called to the xircom support, they sent me a description how to solve this problems - a description about the global access module!!!!!!!!

The apple support only knows how to connect to the internet with the base station .... But it must work, or?

Please help me.

Same problems here. I have the module talking properly to the network, and it does a "modem sync" with AvantGo with no problems (and VERY fast). But Blazer won't connect to the Net, nor will Multimail.

I'm running a Peer-to-Peer network on Win Me with Sygate.

If you got AvantGo to sync wirelessly, try browsing wirelessly. It sounds as though you can get a connection to AG's servers so it might work. Good luck.

i have tried it ... error 5494 unknown network error.

multimail: timeout error after 1 second.

blazer: make sure coverage is enabled ... what does this mean?

Unhappy

I am currently evaluating the Xircom for inclusion in a report on PDAs I'm doing. The SpringPort will send out a request to our LinkSys Access Point and make a connection to the bridge. However, it's DHCP Client does not work. You will get random or no IP Addresses, but not what the DHCP Server is handing out.

Xircom Tech Support has acknowledged that 'there is a problem' and that they're working on it. Meanwhile, my evaluation is dead in the water. I'm a bit surprised they didn't try a simple DHCP Client/Server connection test before releasing this product to the public.

I also have the Xircom 802.11b module as well as a Linksys BEFW11S4 (AP / cable-DLS router / switch) that it won't talk to. I've had a case open with Xircom since June 12th and just received the following update July 5th:

We have ordered the EtherFast Wireless AP + Cable/DSL Router, will commence testing on LinkSys arrival.

This may take a while.

Well - this was solved much faster than I thought!

Yesterday Linksys posted an update for my BEFW11S4. Now my Xircom card works perfectly even with 64 and 128 bit encryption. The code version that was posted was v1.37.9b dated Jun 21 2001.

I'm very happy now.

I got it working here as well. (My rather odd setup: peer-to-peer network 802.11 using Sygate for Internet sharing.) The trick was to put the server machine's IP in as gateway and to put the cable modem ISP's DNS servers in on the network settings. Works wonderfully now.

Good for you making the connection, can you provide some additional information? I had updated to the linksys firmware to v1.37.2b before giving up on the swe module. Would like to have some confidence that the issue is resolved before getting a new swe module.

Before applying the update did you get serial error 0x0302 using a dynamic address? After applying the update were you able to connect via dhcp?

Does the BEFW11S4 support 128 bit encryption? Or is that in the new firmware? Thought it only supported 40 bit (64).

Sorry about the 60 question;> )

Just downloaded the firmware update and the version text file lists wep 64/128 bit as an addition. So it appears that 128 bit wep was added in this update - will find out for certain when the update is applied tonight.

No problem. Got the evil 0x0302 error before with dynamic address. When I put everything in static, it still didn't work very well. After the Linksys update all is well. Fires right up with everything dynamic and learned from the Linksys. I've tried all flavors of encryption: none, 40 and 128. All work well.
