-- PQA's on 3.1 - You can do it! (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=10877)

It's true! You can use PQA's on a OS 3.1 Visor! Free!

Just download the PQA driver software from JP Systems!

http://www.jpsystems.com/jps_home/freewapqa/intro.asp

They've had this available since Nov., I don't know why it hasn't made any press. I stumbled on it just this morning, and installed it on my Visor Dlx, and it works great. PQA's run just like they run on a newer Visor or a Palm VII

You can't launch PQA's from the launcher, just inside the "browser" program. But they run! Its great! And its Free!

Word of warning though, not all PQAs run on JPS PQA; but I would say that over half of the ones I have tried have worked great. The others gave me various problems, but none gave the Visor any problems (soft resets, etc.), they simply didn't work so I removed them.

I'm not using the JPS PQA browser, but I think in general, alot of PQA's are old and no longer work to begin with. Some PQA's also rely on palm.net cell tower location info which isn't available outside of a Palm VII.. I don't think the (main) issue is with the JPS software..

That's great, chrisfoster, but I have a question. Do I still have to have a VisorPhone or some modem connection or what? Or is there a way I can ask the software to go and retrieve Web sites during a HotSync?

... I think I might stick with AvantGo for now.

PQA's on the JS Software work just like they do on a Palm VII. You still need a network connection to use most of them, but some don't, and contain static data. I havn't found any that can sync like AvantGo.

Plus, not all Palm VII software will work. Stuff like AOL Mail VII still needs parts of the VII OS that JS PQA doesn't emulate.

It's true that many are old and don't work, but their still great because they download only the nessessary data and are faster then accessing a web page. Durring the Ravens game, I was unable to access a TV, but I used a football PQA to keep up on the action. It worked great.

JS does a great job emulating the special Palm.net features, but not all work. For example, the weather.com PQA has a "My Weather" button which looks up your zip through the Palm.net network. JS systems can trick that, but you have to put in your Zip your self. (In the prefs). It still works, but isn't as fun as with Palm VII.

Dood. This is the "Wireless solutions" forum. PQAs are the original wireless solution.

are there alternatives to jps browser?

I am trying to get a PQA application running, and it is critical. It runs but always times out. Are there other PQA browsers for Visors (Platinum)?

Posted by jradi on 05-22-2001 11:55 AM:

Anyone know of any other pqa browser programs that run on the VDX?

Posted by jlbprof on 05-22-2001 03:42 PM:

Angry JPS SureWave does not work

I could not get JPS SureWave to run a critical PQA for us.

Therefore I dumped it, and found at the following web sites the information to use the Palm VII libraries.

This web site contains the instructions for getting it to work and to change the default proxy server site:

http://www.geocities.com/daveinfopa...ebclipping.html

This site contains the actual libraries that you need:

http://www.mrpalm.com/Mrpalmdotnet/webclipping.zip

I am sure this is violating license and/or copyrights.

Good luck

Uh...

That trick doesn't seem to work on os 3.1... only the plat and newer machines - right?

Anyone w/a VDX get the Palm VII libs to work with 3.1??? It would be nice, but I don't think so...

Question JPS Browser for using PQA's on the Visor

Is this software still available? Or, can someone e-mail it to me @ [email protected]

Posted by PDAENVY on 08-14-2001 10:07 PM:

Now it's called SureWave by JPMobile. Get it here.
